Position SummaryThe Category Management Assistant supports our Category Managers in merchandising products online, coordinating with suppliers, analyzing product performance, and ensuring the accuracy and quality of our web listings. This is an ideal position for someone early in their career who enjoys working with product data, e-commerce platforms, and cross-functional teams.
You will be closely involved in day-to-day category operations, gaining hands‑on experience across merchandising, vendor communication, and product strategy.

Pay Range: $40K -$55K annually
Key Responsibilities Product Merchandising & Web Publishing (Primary Function)- Publish new products to the website, ensuring accurate categorization, clean descriptions, SEO‑friendly copy, and high‑quality product images.
- Maintain and improve existing product listings, correcting errors in copy, pricing, attributes, or categorization.
- Build and update product landing pages, collections, and category structures.
- Follow established merchandising standards and brand guidelines.
- Communicate with suppliers to request product information, specifications, images, lead times, or availability updates.
- Relay questions, updates, and simple requests between suppliers and Category Managers.
- Track vendor responses and elevate issues when needed.
- Assist the sales team by researching product details, locating documentation, and relaying category‑related insights.
- Help identify product issues, gaps, or opportunities based on sales feedback.
- Review product‑level reports and help identify slow movers, discontinued items, errors, and opportunities.
- Assist Category Managers with data cleanup, pricing validations, and inventory‑related tasks in Excel, Power
BI, and internal tools. - Support promotional setup and seasonal merchandising initiatives.
- Regular collaboration with Marketing, Inventory Planning, E‑commerce, and Customer Service to keep product strategy and execution aligned.
- Support special projects, promotional campaigns, and ongoing category improvements.
- Help test and implement new workflows, merchandising tools, and process improvements.
- 1–3 years of experience in merchandising, e‑commerce, marketing, data entry, or a related role (or equivalent education).
- Strong familiarity with Excel (sorting, filtering, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, basic formulas).
- Strong written communication skills, especially in producing clear product copy.
- Strong organization skills, the ability to juggle multiple priorities, and proactive problem‑solving.
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Comfortable communicating by email, phone and Microsoft Teams with vendors and internal staff.
- Ability to learn systems such as Adobe Commerce and Epicor P21.
- Experience in e‑commerce merchandising or product data management.
- Experience using Adobe Commerce, PIM systems, ERP software, or inventory tools.
- Experience using AI tools for data collection, copywriting, problem solving and other functions.
- Familiarity with boating, marine parts, mechanical systems, or technical products (helpful but not required).
- Interest in learning skills and responsibilities of the category manager role.
