Custodian II (Project Management)
White Bear YMCA is seeking custodial support staff to uphold standards in cleaning, janitorial services, and general building maintenance. Hours may vary based on operational needs. Team members enjoy a free YMCA of the North membership and discounts on YMCA programs.
The salary range of this position is $16.50 per hour. Base pay may vary depending on background and experience. The compensation package for full‑time employees includes medical, dental, life, disability, PTO, and free membership. Part‑time benefits will vary.
Job SummaryThe Custodian II is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of the assigned areas. The incumbent is accountable for completing duties with a minimum level of supervision. Duties include, but are not limited to, mopping, dusting, trash removal, window washing, meeting set‑up, pool cleaning, snow removal, lawn care, and other general cleaning responsibilities. The incumbent interacts positively with members and staff, responds to requests personally or informs the appropriate maintenance staff.
Member service is the incumbent's main objective while demonstrating the YMCA core values of honesty, responsibility, caring, equity, and respect.
- Complete all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintain daily upkeep of assigned area and equipment.
- Perform janitorial duties, including wet & dry mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, meeting set‑up, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, seasonal lawn care, snow removal, and general cleaning as requested.
- Record all needed repairs, repair as directed, report all repairs to supervisor, and follow up with staff.
- Ensure the YMCA building and property are secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
- Clean up of blood or body fluids which could contain blood borne pathogens.
- Operate motorized equipment used for cleaning.
This position reports to the Custodial Supervisor, who reports to the Executive Director. The incumbent works closely with staff to ensure that cleanliness standards are met and attends all relevant training programs.
Qualifications- Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
- Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of the equipment used for cleaning.
- Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
- Willingness to learn and share new and better methods of cleaning.
- Willingness to develop.
- Move up to 50 pounds of project materials or tools to remote building locations up to 200 feet away.
- Use scaffolding, ladders, and platforms; work at heights up to 30 feet for extended periods.
- Work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, and cleaners in various forms.
- Operate motorized cleaning equipment as needed.
- Work in conditions that create dirt and dust, and report maintenance requests.
- Perform tasks involving reaching, crouching, kneeling, twisting, and lying on the stomach or back.
- Work outdoors in various climates.
- Respond to emergency/on‑call situations.
