Wheeling University seeks qualified applicants for a Maintenance Technician that is available immediately. Successful candidates must be committed to the academic success of the students and be able to support and promote the University's Mission.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain, inspect, repair, and ensure proper operation of campus buildings, infrastructure, and building systems.
  • Utilize general working knowledge of HVAC systems; hot water boilers and heaters; refrigerant systems; plumbing and water lines (including building and city connections); electrical systems and utility lines; internal and external gas lines; fire notification and suppression systems; and outdoor lighting.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs to interior and exterior building structures, including walls, floors, roofs, masonry, carpentry, painting, and concrete work.
  • Complete preventative maintenance and respond to service requests in accordance with established procedures and safety standards.
  • Prioritize and manage work orders independently while balancing routine maintenance with event-related and operational deadlines.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and work specifications to accurately diagnose and resolve maintenance issues.
  • Apply basic mathematical concepts to perform measurements and maintenance-related calculations.
  • Communicate and coordinate professionally with outsourced groundskeeping staff regarding campus grounds needs.
  • Provide event support, including setup and teardown for athletic events, conferences, student orientation, and other campus activities.
  • Required to have working knowledge of OSHA safety rules, hand tools, power tools and shop equipment.
  • Work collaboratively and professionally with Physical Plant staff, contractors, campus departments, and students.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of campus operations.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • One to three years of related experience.
  • Must be able to regularly sit, stand, walk, talk, hear and use hands to handle and feel objects; lift and / or move up to 50lbs; reach with hands and arms, climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; occasionally lift and / or move up to 100lbs; have vision abilities that include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision;

    depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Required to read, interpret and apply policies and procedures in assigned areas; document as required by policies and procedures; maintain qualifications and certification and complete annual training as required by the position.
  • Must be okay with the work environment: regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including extreme cold, extreme heat, wet and humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; moderate to loud noise level; high, steep, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock (All PPE is provided).
