The cashier position is responsible for providing outstanding customer service, operating the point of sale (POS) register and related equipment, suggesting sales, displaying product knowledge, replenishing merchandise on shelves and coolers, attending to housekeeping matters, ensuring compliance with Form W‑2G, and adhering to loss‑prevention policies and company policy/store standards.
Typical Schedule and Work LocationThe position requires working various shifts to meet staffing needs. Schedules may be adjusted for employee restrictions, and employees may be required to work at other nearby locations as needed. Full‑time status requires 35 hours per week; part‑time less than 35.
MinimumRequired Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including spelling and grammar.
- Prior retail experience using a POS system.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, email, and internet browsers.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
TravelNo overnight travel required. Some travel to nearby Gumby’s or Geno’s stores may be necessary.
PrincipalDuties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Provide outstanding customer service, greet and acknowledge each customer, and maintain high standards of merchandise product knowledge.
- Complete all POS transactions, including returns, voids, control of cash, checks, coupons, credit/debit receipts, and provide correct change.
- Perform timely safe drops, verify non‑counterfeit money, accept credit/debit cards and checks, and run the POS register per policies.
- Validate LVL tickets, assist patrons using the cash kiosk, clean LVL machines per guidelines, and stock self‑serve coolers.
- Complete IRS Form W‑2G in accordance with company guidelines.
- Handle end‑of‑shift or end‑of‑day reporting, balancing cash drawer, coupons, checks, and preparing cash/coin for deposit.
- Replenish merchandise on shelves/coolers, help receive merchandise, maintain housekeeping, and perform general maintenance duties.
- Report maintenance issues, incidents, equipment problems, ATM, LVL machines, smart safes, and cash kiosk issues to Lead or Store Manager promptly, and submit the appropriate form from the Gumby’s website.
- Assist LVL and/or IT technicians in troubleshooting error codes and maintenance issues in LVL machines, credit card equipment, check acceptance equipment, ATMs, and cash kiosks.
- Communicate cash levels in ATMs and cash kiosks when requested.
- Wear appropriate company uniform and maintain professional appearance.
- Punch in and out of the time clock per company policies.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and practices.

Physical / Environmental DemandsTypical demands include standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods; lifting and moving items up to 30–50 pounds; exposure to smoke, dust, fumes, odors, and moderate noise; and working in a busy indoor environment with customer traffic.
Tools and Equipment UsedStandard office equipment such as computers, calculators, phones, scanners, fax machines, money counters/sorters, POS registers, lottery terminals, credit/debit card equipment, check acceptance equipment, electronic time cards, security keypad panels, and filing cabinets. Housekeeping tools include broom, vacuum sweeper, mop, bucket, and cleaning materials.
