Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with a Master’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Certification from one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers.
  • Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.
  • Basic Life Support Certification required, with additional Advanced Life Support (ALS)/Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training at the discretion of the department.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Acute care, surgical, critical care, or trauma experience.
  • Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as X‑ray and point‑of‑care lab tests.
  • Examines patients to obtain information about their physical condition.
  • Instructs and counsels patients about prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.
  • Interprets diagnostic test results for deviations from normal.
  • Makes diagnosis and decisions about management and treatment of patients.
  • Obtains, compiles, and records patient medical data, including health history, progress notes, and results of physical examination using the Meditech EMR.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and infection management.
  • Prescribes therapy or medication electronically when available.
  • Educates, instructs, and coordinates activities with the medical assistant(s) as needed during the care and treatment of patients.
  • Provides emergency support following established policies and procedures.
  • Communicates with staff, medical staff, and administration in support of operations.

  • Manual dexterity required.
  • Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying of materials and equipment.

  • Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrates competency as appropriate in‑patient care assessment for each patient population served: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
