Minimum Qualifications

Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with a Master’s Degree in Nursing.

Certification from one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers.

Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.

Basic Life Support Certification required, with additional Advanced Life Support (ALS)/Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training at the discretion of the department.

Preferred Qualifications

Acute care, surgical, critical care, or trauma experience.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as X‑ray and point‑of‑care lab tests.

Examines patients to obtain information about their physical condition.

Instructs and counsels patients about prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.

Interprets diagnostic test results for deviations from normal.

Makes diagnosis and decisions about management and treatment of patients.

Obtains, compiles, and records patient medical data, including health history, progress notes, and results of physical examination using the Meditech EMR.

Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and infection management.

Prescribes therapy or medication electronically when available.

Educates, instructs, and coordinates activities with the medical assistant(s) as needed during the care and treatment of patients.

Provides emergency support following established policies and procedures.

Communicates with staff, medical staff, and administration in support of operations.

Physical Requirements

Near vision required.

Normal hearing required.

Manual dexterity required.

Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying of materials and equipment.

Working Environment

Cognizant of environmental factors, infection control issues, and maintains a safe environment.

Skills and Abilities

Demonstrates competency as appropriate in‑patient care assessment for each patient population served: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
