The Head Coach for Women’s Soccer will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer program at Wheeling University. This position requires a dynamic individual who can develop and execute a competitive vision for the program, recruit high‑quality student‑athletes, and foster an environment that values academic achievement, personal growth, and community engagement.
Job Responsibilities- Trains and prepares student‑athletes by teaching sport‑specific skills, tactics, and philosophy; plans, schedules, and directs practices; and oversees physical training and conditioning during both in‑season and off‑season periods.
- Monitors and supports student‑athlete academic progress in coordination with the Faculty Academic Representative, Academic Coordinator, and Registrar; establishes study halls; facilitates tutoring and mentoring; and ensures academic eligibility and accurate entry into the NCAA Compliance Program in accordance with NCAA and conference requirements.
- Recruits, scouts, and evaluates prospective student‑athletes in compliance with NCAA, conference, and University regulations; assesses athletic ability and academic readiness; determines eligibility; and coordinates athletic scholarships consistent with the University’s approved model.
- Oversees graduate assistants, including hiring, training, supervision, performance evaluation, and ongoing feedback.
- Provides clear direction, instruction, feedback, and encouragement while setting expectations and holding staff and student‑athletes accountable.
- Fosters a positive, professional, and inclusive environment by modeling strong work ethic, integrity, and continuous improvement.
- Coaches and develops student‑athletes of all performance levels by identifying potential, building strengths, and supporting individual and team growth.
- Builds rapport and trust through effective communication, active listening, and an approachable, professional demeanor.
- Coordinates people, ideas, and resources to achieve program objectives and ensure effective execution of responsibilities.
- Performs duties independently with minimal supervision while effectively taking and providing direction as appropriate.
- Communicates and upholds the University’s mission, vision, and values with professionalism, dedication, and enthusiasm.
- Maintains regular office consultation hours and performs other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- At least 3 years of coaching experience in soccer, with a track record of competitive success, preferably at the collegiate level
- Demonstrated ability to recruit and develop student‑athletes.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to the academic success and personal development of student‑athletes.
- Knowledge of and commitment to compliance with all relevant rules and regulations.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be legally authorized to work in the United States. The University is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position at this time.
