Physician Assistant – Surgical / Trauma

Wheeling Hospital invites an experienced Physician Assistant to provide diagnostic and therapeutic care for surgical and trauma patients. Under the supervision of the attending physician, the PA will perform history, physical examination, and management of inpatient and outpatient cases, assist in surgical procedures, provide postoperative care, and respond to medical emergencies.

• Perform history and physical examinations on inpatients and outpatients; establish presumptive diagnoses and manage patient care under physician supervision.
• Assist in hospital rounds, document progress notes, and order laboratory and radiologic studies.
• Participate as first or second assist on major and minor surgeries as directed.
• Manage medical emergencies and initiate appropriate therapy until a physician arrives.
• Assist in post‑partum care and conduct postoperative assessments.
• Maintain annual CPR certification.
• Participate in continuing medical education and training of health personnel as directed.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervising physician.

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• West Virginia certification and/or license as required.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Valid state license to practice as a Physician Assistant.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

• Frequent prolonged standing and walking; may involve exposure to infection and patient injuries.
• Ability to handle emergency or crisis situations and work irregular hours, including on‑call duties.
