Our ideal candidate is a dedicated advocate for student success, specializing in the transition from high school to post‑secondary life. You will provide expert guidance to a diverse student body, ensuring that every student—regardless of background—has a clear, actionable path toward their future. This role requires a blend of deep technical knowledge (financial aid, admissions cycles) and the ability to build meaningful relationships with students, families, and university partners.
Post-SecondarySchool Counselor - 0.6 FTE Specific Qualifications
- State of Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement in school counseling.
- NCC or LPC/LCPC desired.
- Multilingual candidates preferred.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Provides guidance and post‑secondary planning support across a diverse student population in large and small group settings.
- Assists in the preparation of students for post‑secondary success.
- Creates outreach programming for specialized populations including first‑generation college, low‑income, high‑achieving, undocumented students and prospective collegiate athletes.
- Coordinates the outreach efforts to educate and assist students in the completion of the FAFSA and other financial aid applications; monitors the FAFSA graduation requirements and provides assistance to other Specialized Schools counselors in helping students complete the requirement.
- Builds relationships with college admission representatives and acts as a liaison between them and our students/parents.
- Networks with the Post‑Secondary Counselor in each of the district buildings to plan a variety of post‑secondary district events for students and parents.
- Networks with post‑secondary counselors in Chicago‑area high schools to stay abreast of topics related to post‑secondary planning.
- Remain current regarding college admissions and financial aid information and procedures.
- Establishes useful contacts with admission personnel.
- Assists students and families with college application, FAFSA completion, and recommendation process within the high school.
- Pursues professional growth; and
- Follow directives of Associate Principal.
