Controller – Real Estate Development & Property Accounting | 4/1 Hybrid (Wheeling area)

Connect Search is a Controller to join a growing real estate development and operating platform based in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago (Wheeling area). This is a high-impact leadership role for a hands‑on finance professional who wants to treat the business like their own.

Seeking a technically strong, detail‑oriented Controller who can elevate the accounting function, implement best practices, and fully leverage Yardi
.

This is a true operator’s role ideal for someone who:

• Takes ownership of the full accounting function
• Is comfortable in a growing, entrepreneurial environment
• Wants to build structure, accountability, and rigor into the finance function

• 6–12+ years of accounting experience
• Advanced proficiency in Yardi (required)
• Experience in multi‑entity environments
• Comfortable working primarily in‑office (1 day WFH flexibility)
• CPA preferred but not required
• The team is looking for someone who reviews their work carefully, understands systems, and brings professionalism and consistency to the organization.
• Lead all accounting operations across multiple real estate projects and entities
• Oversee monthly close, financial reporting, and project‑level accounting
• Manage development accounting, job cost tracking, and capital allocations
• Oversee AP/AR (including coordination with a virtual AR resource)
• Ensure proper system utilization and optimization of Yardi
• Establish internal controls and improve processes
• Support ownership with accurate, timely financial insights
