Summary
The primary function of the Family Transportation Driver is to ensure that children and families experiencing homelessness are safely and reliably transported to and from educational, enrichment, and supportive services. This includes transportation for children to and from school, after‑school programs, school‑based activities, educational meetings (including IEP meetings and parent‑teacher conferences), extracurricular activities, community events, and off‑site educational programs; and transporting families to appointments, meetings, and agency‑related services.
The driver may also transport adults and/or agency supplies as needed to support program and operational needs.

Responsibilities- Operate within Du Page Pads Core Values and Trauma‑Informed Policies.
- Serve as the primary transportation support for families and children experiencing homelessness.
- Transport children to and from school, after‑school programs, tutoring, extracurricular activities, and enrichment programs.
- Provide transportation for educational meetings including IEP meetings and parent‑teacher conferences, as well as other school‑based events.
- Transport families to off‑site educational events, workshops, community learning opportunities, appointments, and agency‑related services.
- Transport adults and/or agency supplies when required by the agency.
- Provide transportation during evening and weekend hours.
- Plan and establish safe and efficient transportation routes and schedules.
- Assist children and family members needing accommodation in and out of the vehicle.
- Demonstrate knowledge of child safety practices, including proper use of car seats, booster seats, seat belts, and other age‑appropriate safety restraints, and ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations.
- Conduct thorough pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle inspections.
- Maintain orderly conduct of all passengers and report unsafe acts or conditions.
- Clean and service the vehicle and report needed repairs.
- Work as part of a team to provide support and assistance when needed.
- Prepare and submit required transportation documentation in a timely manner.
- Participate in program planning, evaluation, trainings, and team meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Ability to safely operate a large vehicle.
- Strong interpersonal and engagement skills.
- Effective written, oral, and crisis intervention skills.
- Effective planning, problem‑solving, and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Computer literacy in Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of issues related to homelessness, poverty, and mental health preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) clearance.
- Previous professional driving experience preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- Full‑time schedule required with availability to work evenings and weekends.
- Provide own transportation to and from work; agency provides vehicle for conducting services.
