  • Job Goal: The School Social Worker/Counselor facilitates the social/emotional development of students by providing comprehensive services to students, teachers, and other school personnel, and coordinates services to and for the families.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Social Work/Counseling
  • Illinois PEL
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct social/developmental studies for Case Study Evaluations and Re-evaluations.
  • Participate in staffings, parent conferences, development of IEPs, Annual Reviews and consultation regarding individual students.
  • Provide individual and/or group counseling to students.
  • Develop, plan and assist parents in the implementation of specific instructional programs to be carried out in the home.
  • Consult with coordinator, principal, teachers and support staff regarding specific students and their needs.
  • Provide technical assistance to teachers as needed regarding students demonstrating minor behavior, adjustment and/or socialization difficulties.
  • Refer and provide information to students and their families regarding community agencies and services which may assist them in meeting their needs.
  • Serve as a consultant/supervisor to Social Work Interns.
  • Serve as a liaison between home and school in providing parent education and counseling, as appropriate.
  • Interview parents regarding information pertinent to the school setting and for the Social/Developmental study.
  • Assist families in meeting needs of students, e.g. clothing, adaptive equipment, medical services, recreation, child/respite care and other special needs.
  • Provide information to families regarding community resources as appropriate.

Pay Transparency:
Salary and Benefits information listed in the IEA NEA Contract is for the  school year and will be updated for next year regarding compensation packages per our new collective bargaining agreement that will begin on July 1, 2026.
