We are pleased to offer the job opportunity of the Rehabilitation and Wheelchair Technician in the DuPage County Care Center.

This position is included in the Bargaining Unit of AFSCME, Council 31

This position is also eligible for hourly tenure payment based on years of experience as a C.N.A. and is in addition to the base hourly pay rate.

Experience as a Certified Nursing Aide Hourly Tenure Payment

  • 1 Year – $1.50
  • 2 Years – $2.50
  • 3 Years – $3.50
  • 4 Years – $4.50
  • 5 Years – $5.50
  • 6 or more Years – $6.50

Responsibilities
  • Inspects manual and electric wheelchairs for any repair needs
  • Conducts repairs required on wheelchairs such as replacing backs, seats, wheels, and brakes
  • Lubricates moving parts, and replaces worn belts and other parts
  • Disconnects, disassembles, cleans and replaces worn parts
  • Assists with all facility wheelchair concerns
  • Implements and adjusts body positioning supports such as leg rests, arm rests, head supports, seat cushion, and height of wheelchair
  • Performs preventative maintenance on wheelchairs
  • Maintains the repair logs and wheelchair maintenance database
  • Orders parts and maintains inventory
  • Participates in facility-wide quality improvement initiatives and projects
  • Depending on assignment, may act as CNRA/CNA and provide resident care (e.g. changes, feeds, bathes resident, etc.)
Requirements
  • Completion of a High school Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma
  • Six (6) months of experience in maintenance and repair
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Certified Nurse’s Aide
  • Completion of the State of Illinois Certified Nurse’s Aide Training program and a passing score on the State of Illinois Competency test; registered as active with a clear record on the State of Illinois registry
  • Certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Nursing Assistant (CNRA) or Restorative Nursing Aide is required within six(6) months of employment
A post offer physical is required. A pre-employment background check is required.

Heavy Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Use of arm and /or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than for medium work.

The work will occur in an office and field environment and regularly includes working with residents and attending to their daily needs.
