Salary range: $20.15 - $26.20 per hour.
Sign‑on bonus available: $4,000.

One East / West is a forty‑bed unit specializing in stroke rehabilitation. Our multidisciplinary team includes physicians, nurses, therapists, nursing assistants, psychologists, dietitians, chaplains, and allied staff. Marianjoy Stroke Program is Joint Commission–certified for Stroke Rehabilitation. The unit focuses on individualized treatment plans to address physical, emotional, and behavioral changes to return patients to their communities.
Job Responsibilities- Answer and triage patient call lights, providing timely care.
- Assist patients with personal hygiene and activities of daily living.
- Apply assistive devices, prosthetics, and orthoses per patient program.
- Perform skin‑care program, report skin changes immediately.
- Calculate and document calorie intake, output, and weights.
- Assist with transfers and mobility using proper techniques and devices.
- Manage bladder and bowel elimination programs; collect specimens; perform straight catheterization under RN direction.
- Record vital signs, blood glucose, and 12‑lead EKG, reporting concerns to RN.
- Assist with menu selection and meal service; pass trays and snacks.
- Supervise patients at high fall risk; provide fall prevention strategies.
- Participate in unit rounding to monitor patient status.
- Use de‑escalation techniques for agitated or aggressive patients.
- Engage patients in appropriate activities.
- Serve as unit mobility champion.
- Maintain and organize unit equipment inventories.
- Precept new employees.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by nurse manager or supervisors.
- Participate in system and local quality improvement initiatives.
- Collect data and conduct audits for Joint Commission readiness.
- Assist in maintaining unit readiness for regulatory standards.
- Maintain a therapeutic relationship for optimal customer‑focused care.
- Communicate effectively with patients appropriate to age and cognitive status, demonstrating cultural sensitivity.
- Collaborate with peers and hospital staff to foster positive working relationships.
- Effectively triage patient concerns to RN.
- Contribute to safe, effective, professional patient care using safety/restrictive devices when appropriate.
- Follow infection control policies and procedures.
- Maintain knowledge of Marianjoy policies for precautions, codes, and safety procedures.
- Rotate to all units based on patient care needs.
- Adjust to changes in policy, procedure, unit, and patient population.
Required
- High‑school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Current Nursing Assistant certification (C.N.A.) or enrollment in an RN program with two completed clinical rotations.
- Current CPR certification.
- Basic math skills.
- Strong communication skills and customer‑service orientation.
- Understanding and support of Northwestern Medicine’s mission and values.
- Flexibility to manage work in a changing environment.
- 12‑lead EKG competency completed within 6 months of employment.
Preferred
- 2–5 years of experience in a rehabilitation hospital, acute care hospital, or skilled nursing facility.
