Responsibilities
  • Plan and instruct students on District and Illinois State Standards aligned curriculum.
  • Communicate both verbally and in writing with parents and students on progress.
  • Diligently enter student grade information into appropriate computer databases in a timely manner.
  • Develop lesson plans and goals that meet District expectations.
  • Conduct and interpret formal and informal assessments to evaluate student progress, maintain records of student work, and develop intervention strategies to ensure student success and growth.
  • Meet regularly with support teachers, paraprofessionals, and specialists to discuss individual students' modifications or adaptations, ongoing learning issues, interventions or problems.
  • Work collaboratively to ensure individual students' needs are met by enriching or modifying lessons, curriculum, materials, and resources as needed.
  • Participate in staff development and school-improvement activities to maintain professional growth.
  • Plan and incorporate best practices or new strategies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in 9-12 Science Education (Master's preferred).
  • Successful experience as a secondary-level science teacher.
  • Illinois Teaching Certificate appropriate for the assignment.
  • State of Illinois endorsement in environmental science.
  • Background in preparing students for success on the science portion of the State of Illinois ACT exam (preferred).
  • Strong instructional, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum design and implementation, including appropriate instructional technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability for student management and instructional delivery.
  • Commitment to fostering a lifelong appreciation of science and STEM-related fields.
Compensation

Salary placement is based on education and experience, pursuant to the Westmont Teachers Associations (WTA).
