SPECIAL EDUCATION PARA EDUCATOR (Classroom, Facilitative/LDR or Individual)
Qualifications- Meets all ISBE licensure requirements
- Reading or math background, preferred
- Experience with children, preferred
- Basic computer skills
- Self-motivation with ability to follow prescribed program and IEP objectives with limited direct supervision
- Bilingual skills helpful
- Must be able to walk, stand, and bend for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to use physical ability to lift students and perform other manipulations to diaper, toilet, feed, dress, and assist students with other daily living skills.
- Must be able to push, pull, lift, or carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to participate in Menta Training and implementation (if applicable).
- Displays professionalism, including integrity and confidentiality.
- Demonstrates flexibility in schedule and activities throughout the day.
- Demonstrates cooperation, collaboration, openness for growth and willingness to contribute in a team approach.
- Supports student achievement and growth in integrated social/academic areas.
- Implements instructional plans as determined by licensed teachers and therapists (1:1 or small group).
- Applies lesson modification as directed and supplement or change lesson modifications as needed to ensure that learning objectives are met.
- Administers curriculum-based assessments.
- Records and updates student’s progress toward achievement of individual educational plans.
- Provides support and assists in preparing educational material under the supervision of the teacher.
- Implements and follows through with teacher created behavior plans.
- Provides support with behavioral intervention (if CPI trained).
- Prompts, cues, and redirects students to keep on task.
- Provides support in the areas of personal care, hygiene, toileting, feeding, etc., as needed.
- Assists in the direct supervision of children in the assigned program as directed by the teacher or administrator (e.g., bus loading, classroom assignments, lunch, recess, restroom, etc.).
- Assists with non-instructional activities.
- Escorts students from buses or cars at the start of classes and escorts students to appropriate buses or cars at the end of classes when required.
- Attends and participates in assigned meetings and trainings, as directed.
- Attends team meetings and parent‑teacher conferences, if requested or as appropriate.
- Performs other similar duties as directed by the teacher or the principal.
- All student attendance days, Institute Days, and Workdays.
- 6 hours per day at elementary. 6.5 hours at junior high.
- Hourly rate to be established by the Board of Education ($18/hour).
The School Principal and/or immediate administrative supervisor will serve as the evaluator using the ESP evaluation tool.
