Phlebotomist Group Lead
Quest Diagnostics, Wheat Ridge, CO
Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM with rotational Saturdays
Pay: $26.64 – $30.64 per hour (salary based on experience, skills, and certifications; performance bonus possible)
The Phlebotomist Group Lead is the face of Quest Diagnostics to patients, ensuring accurate and timely specimen collection while supporting the Patient Service Center and in‑office phlebotomy operations. The role includes coaching staff, managing daily activity, and providing administrative support to the supervisory team.

- Collect specimens according to established procedures (drug screens, biometric screening, insurance exams, etc.)
- Administer oral solutions per training
- Research and verify test/client information using lab technology and service directories
- Complete all required data entry (patient registration, order entry, standing orders)
- Enter billing information & collect payments; safeguard assets and credit card data
- Label, centrifuge, split, & freeze specimens as required
- Perform clerical duties (inventory, stock supplies, phone support) when assigned
- Ensure compliance with departmental policies, manuals, and quality assurance procedures
- Verify patient demographics & signatures; confirm tube labels
- Assist with monthly statistics & data submission
- Maintain phlebotomy logs (maintenance, temperature, etc.)
- Attend training courses and keep up to date with phlebotomy techniques
- Travel to territory/manager meetings if required
- Participate in special projects and teams
- Distribute company communications & technical information to the work group
- Perform point‑of‑care testing at required sites per SOP
- Mentor and support new employees, assisting with onboarding
- Assist with periodic inventory counts and schedule preparation
- Communicate professionally with clients to resolve issues; document critical problems
- Ensure staff follows safety precautions (lab coat, gloves, face shield)
- Assist supervisors with SOP implementation & technical communication
- Maintain facilities cleanliness & report needed repairs
- Act as coach, mentor, instructor, and point of contact for staff
- Provide effective onboarding services to new clients
- Partner with supervisors to set up new PSC & IOP offices
- Lead as needed to cover for a PSR III
- Support patient inquiries from website, office, and managed care
- Assist with problem resolution line & field calls as needed
- Provide input on PSR performance evaluations
- Minimum 7 years phlebotomy experience (including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections)
- Keyboard/data‑entry proficiency
- Flexibility & availability (weekends, holidays, on‑call, overtime)
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license & clean driving record (if required)
- Ability to travel and work multiple locations with minimal notice
- Strong communication skills in English
- Medical assistant or paramedic training
- Minimum 5 years in a PSC or IOP environment
- Customer service experience in retail or service setting
- Lift light to moderately heavy objects (1–40 lbs); avoid >41 lbs without assistance
- Sit or stand for extended periods; eye & hand coordination required
- Perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently
- Travel distance as required by role
- Extensive use of phone and PC
- Fine dexterity, steady hands, ability to talk, walk, balance, kneel, push, pull, reach, twist
