Quality Control Technician – Wharton, NJ | Job Description (Job )

Position Overview

Responsible for performing quality control testing and monitoring of aggregates, recycled materials and hot mix asphalt mixtures produced at the assigned location. The home base is Mt. Hope Quarry in Wharton, NJ, but the employee will travel locally to cover other facilities as needed.

Core Responsibilities
  • Formally and visibly demonstrate support and understanding of CRH and Tilcon’s core values of People, Character, Performance, Innovation.
  • Work safely, complying with all OSHA and MSHA regulations and Tilcon environmental, health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform quality control testing as required by State and local agencies and in accordance with Tilcon procedures, ensuring the highest quality material is produced.
  • Collect samples in accordance with ASTM and AASHTO guidelines.
  • Provide test data and necessary reports to plant manager and other pertinent plant personnel in a timely manner.
  • Provide process and mix adjustment recommendations as required.
  • Maintain current State agency QC/QA certifications, upholding all aspects of the quality control program and staying in compliance with agency specifications.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date database, record logs, and other administrative files, and order necessary supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Support and assist internal customers (sales, construction, estimating, operations and senior management) and external customers by reviewing and providing detailed information and insight on material specifications and test results as requested.
  • Support and assist coworkers in a team environment.
  • Maintain regular and timely attendance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Required Education / Experience / Skills
  • High School diploma or GED or 3+ years of practical work experience.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and company procedures as outlined in the Company Handbook.
  • Ability to work scheduled overtime, weekends and occasional night shifts; available for emergency overtime when needed.
  • Ability to travel to various job sites as required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English to understand specifications, reports, manuals and regulations.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications:
    Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another.
  • Ability to work professionally with other personnel in a team environment.
  • Ability to evaluate questions or problems effectively, seeking assistance when needed.
Preferred Education / Experience / Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or B.E.) from a four‑year college or university.
  • Equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the preferred knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Experience carrying out standardized laboratory tests in accordance with ASTM and AASHTO standards.

Physical Requirements

The employee is regularly required to talk and hear, use a computer for extended periods, move, remain stationary, perform repetitive motions, and use fine motor skills.
