Mechanical Engineering Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced (
Mechanical Engineering)to provide direct engineering and technical support to the Development Command Armaments Center (DEVCOM AC), Fuze and Precision Armaments Directorate (FPAD), Maneuver Support Division (MSD). This role supports the full life-cycle engineering mission for legacy and future armament systems, including research, development, modernization, production, fielding, and sustainment activities at Picatinny Arsenal and associated project locations.
This position requires a senior-level engineer and trusted technical advisor who can independently analyze complex engineering challenges, support Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), and represent engineering interests during technical reviews and customer engagements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Armaments Modernization & Production Engineering
- Provide expert mechanical engineering solutions to resolve technical challenges related to armaments, ammunition, and maneuver support systems across research, development, modernization, and production phases.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of life-cycle management for armament and ammunition systems, from concept development through sustainment.
- Support engineering efforts for legacy systems currently fielded as well as emerging capabilities aligned with Army 2030 and Army 2040 initiatives.
Systems Engineering & Integrated Product Team (IPT) Support
- Provide engineering support during key technical, design, and program reviews, serving as a subject matter expert for mechanical systems and integration concerns.
- Participate in IPTs and working groups with government customers and stakeholders to identify risks, resolve engineering issues, and recommend technically sound solutions.
- Support the development of procurement packages as new contract requirements emerge.
- Conduct technical evaluations of contractor proposals and support source selection activities as required.
- Provide engineering support for Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) and Requests for Variance (RFVs).
- Support failure analysis activities during First Article Testing (FAT) and Lot Acceptance Testing (LAT).
- Review and provide technical feedback on contract deliverables and responses to customer Requests for Information (RFIs).
Technical Documentation, Reporting, and Communication
- Draft clear, concise technical documentation reflecting program status, risks, engineering concerns, and recommendations.
- Develop formal technical memorandums, engineering reports, and briefing materials for government stakeholders.
- Communicate complex engineering concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Qualifications (Required)
Work Status:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must be able to successfully obtain a Security Clearance
Education:
- Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or Systems Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
Experience:
- Minimum of 8–10 years of progressively responsible mechanical engineering experience
- Demonstrated experience supporting DoD or Army armament, ammunition, or maneuver support programs
- Experience providing senior-level engineering analysis, technical reviews, and customer-facing support
Skills:
- Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and life-cycle engineering
- Ability to interpret and evaluate technical drawings, specifications, and military standards
- Experience with engineering change management and technical evaluation of contractor deliverables
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Qualifications (Preferred):
- Prior experience supporting DEVCOM, Picatinny Arsenal, or similar DoD R&D organizations
- Familiarity with Army acquisition processes, test and evaluation activities, and production readiness reviews
- Experience working within Integrated Product Teams (IPTs)
