36 hrs/week, 7pm-7:30am, rotating weekends, every other holiday

Overview

Manages individualized, outcome‑oriented nursing care through the use of the nursing process. Provides care, treatment, and services through the successful coordination and completion of a series of processes that include assessment, planning care, providing care, in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Medication Administration
    • Demonstrates knowledge of and follows SSH policies and procedures for administering, transcribing, and recording medications.
    • Completes medication reconciliation process following SSH policy.
    • Demonstrates proper procedure for documentation of narcotic withdrawal, verifies count, wastes per policy, resolves discrepancy.
  • Plan of Care and Documentation
    • Develops, discusses, and communicates a prioritized problem list/plan of care for each patient.
    • Initiates admission assessment within 8 hours of admissions, identifies teaching needs.
    • Continues assessment/reassessment and identifies care needs within nursing practice.
    • Documents all patient care following nursing policy, unit standards, disease processes, and nurse sensitive indicators.
    • Assesses patient comfort using pain scale and monitors response to interventions.
    • Advocates for patient/family, seeks help to represent them when needed.
    • Raises ethical concerns and seeks resources to formulate decisions.
    • Communicates daily plan via white board updates.
    • Facilitates discharge/transfer by goal of 12:00pm, communicates barriers.
  • Safety & Quality
    • Fosters a culture of safety through personal ownership and commitment.
    • Verifies patient identification, time out, confirms procedure, site, equipment, consent.
    • Complies with CDC hand hygiene guidelines and universal precautions.
    • Ensures environment meets regulatory requirements.
    • Demonstrates roles in hospital codes/emergency preparedness.
  • Professional Development
    • Assumes responsibility for own development, obtains at least 5 contact hours per year.
    • Practices within legal boundaries of MA Nurse Practice Act; directs others as assigned.
    • Accepts and responds to feedback and recommendations.
    • Builds professional working relationships with all disciplines.
    • Applies critical thinking in problem analysis and solution selection.
    • Stays informed of policy and procedure changes.
  • Technology
    • Uses Lotus Notes and learning management for RN role.
    • Utilizes required software applications and unit standards.
    • Operates in downtime and understands system operation.

    • Works within legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
    • Complies with policies and procedures.
    • Safeguards privacy and security of patient information.
    • Reports potential compliance issues to supervisor or higher.
    • Completes mandatory education requirements.

    • Recognizes patient/family as important partners.
    • Collaborates on planning, implementing, evaluating care.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Education:

    Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (Preferred)
  • Minimum

    Work Experience:

    Previous Acute Care RN experience preferred
  • Required

    Licenses/Certifications:

    RN; BLS; ACLS;
    Emergency Response Training; PALS; NRP; TNCC; TCAR (as applicable)
  • Policy:
    Competency in compliance, privacy, and security programs; legal boundaries of MA Nurse Practice Act.
