Registered Nurse – Intermediate Care Unit – 36hr Nights

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to provide individualized, outcome‑oriented care for patients in our Intermediate Care Unit. The position is full‑time, 36 hours per week, with night shift hours from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM.

Shift: Night (USA) – 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM

Compensation: $38.20 – $77.39 per hour

Responsibilities
  • Administer medications and complete medication reconciliation according to SSH policy.
  • Document care using the nursing process, ensuring compliance with department and hospital standards.
  • Develop, evaluate, and update individual care plans, documenting outcomes.
  • Initiate admission assessments within 8 hours, identify teaching needs, and provide education throughout hospitalization.
  • Continuously assess and re‑assess patients, addressing care needs per nursing practice guidelines.
  • Document all patient interactions following nursing policy, unit standards, disease processes (e.g., CHF, PNA), and nurse‑sensitive indicators.
  • Assess pain and document interventions using appropriate pain scales and patient response.
  • Advocate for patients/families when representation is lacking.
  • Raise ethical concerns and collaborate with the clinical team to formulate decisions.
  • Communicate the care plan via whiteboard updates each shift.
  • Facilitate patient discharge/transfer aiming for 12:00 PM and communicate barriers through the chain of command.
  • Promote a culture of safety by verifying patient identification with dual identifiers before procedures.
  • Maintain hand hygiene, use personal protective equipment, and dispose of hazardous materials per CDC and institutional guidelines.
  • Ensure environment meets regulatory and institutional requirements.
  • Know the roles and responsibilities during codes and emergency preparedness.
  • Engage in professional development, incorporating evidence‑based practice and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Acquire at least 5 contact hours annually in the practice area.
  • Practice within the legal boundaries of the MA Nurse Practice Act and have authority over non‑licensed personnel as assigned.
  • Respond appropriately to feedback and recommendations for change.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues to foster a positive workplace.
  • Employ critical thinking to analyze issues, evaluate alternatives, and select effective solutions.
  • Stay informed about updates to hospital policy and procedures.
  • Utilize technological solutions to support nursing processes.
  • Access Lotus Notes for email, learning management, and other RN resources.
  • Operate equipment and services during downtime as needed.
  • Work within legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
  • Script compliance with privacy and security programs, reporting potential issues to management.
  • Deliver patient‑ and family‑centered care, recognizing patients and families as essential team members.
  • Provide care respecting age, culture, and individual needs, using interpretation and online resources when appropriate.
Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

Experience: Previous Acute Care RN experience preferred.

Required

Licenses/Certifications:

RN – Registered Nurse. Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC), or Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR) may be required depending on department.
