Job Description
  • Medication Administration, including adherence to SSH policies for administering, transcribing, and recording medications.
  • Completes medication reconciliation per policy.
  • Proper documentation of narcotic withdrawal, administration, count, waste, and discrepancy resolution.
  • Develops, discusses, and communicates a prioritized problem list/plan of care for each patient.
  • Evaluates and updates individualized plan of care, documenting outcomes.
  • Initiates admission assessment within 8 hours, identifies teaching needs, and documents them.
  • Continues assessment/reassessment to identify care needs.
  • Documents all patient care following department policy, unit standards, disease processes (CHF, PNA), and nurse-sensitive indicators (falls, skin, CAUTI).
  • Assesses comfort using pain scale and documents response to interventions.
  • Advocates for patient/family, representing them when necessary.
  • Raises ethical concerns with the clinical team and seeks resources.
  • Communicates plan of day via white board updated each shift.
  • Facilitates discharge/transfer aiming for 12:00pm, communicates barriers via chain of command.
  • Fosters a “Culture of Safety” with personal responsibility.
  • Verifies patient identification with two identifiers before invasive procedures, completes “time out,” confirms correct patient, procedure, site, equipment, consent.
  • Complies with CDC hand hygiene guidelines and universal precautions, uses PPE appropriately.
  • Ensures environment meets regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrates roles in hospital codes/emergency preparedness.
  • Owns professional development, incorporates evidence-based practice, research, and improvement initiatives.
  • Obtains at least 5 contact hours per year in area of practice.
  • Practices within MA Nurse Practice Act, directs other licenses and non-licensed personnel as assigned.
  • Accepts and responds to feedback and recommendations.
  • Maintains professional relationships across disciplines.
  • Applies critical thinking: analyzes causes, evaluates alternatives, selects solutions, communicates via chain of command.
  • Stays informed about policy changes.
  • Utilizes technology and software for work processes.
  • Operates efficiently during downtime.
  • Works within legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
  • Safeguards patient privacy and security per SSH programs.
  • Reports compliance issues to management.
  • Complies with mandatory education requirements of compliance, privacy, and security programs.
  • Considers patient and family preferences; collaborates, welcomes participation, respects diversity.
  • Considers age and cultural knowledge and awareness; interacts sensitively and utilizes interpreter services when needed.
Minimum Education – Preferred

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

Minimum Work Experience

Previous Acute Care RN experience preferred.

  • RN – Registered Nurse.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Emergency Response Training (ERT).
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC).
  • Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR).
Per Diem Requirements

Commits to a minimum of 16 hours over two (2) shifts per 4‑week schedule; also works 1 day before or after a major summer or winter holiday.
