Position: REGISTERED RESPIRATORY THERAPIST
Overview
South Shore Health is looking to grow their Respiratory Therapy Team. This position is full-time night shift in the SSH Respiratory Therapy department located at LOC
0001 - 55 Fogg Road, Weymouth, MA 02190. Existing employees should apply through the internal career site.
Responsibilities
Provide respiratory care to patients as assigned by supervisors and based on physician orders for both in-house and out-patient care.Responsible for the safe and effective administration of medically prescribed medications, understanding indications and contraindications, and ensuring proper physician orders before administration (as evidenced by process improvement).Demonstrate proper procedures for procurement of respiratory medications and reconciliation of medication counts.Complete Respiratory Care Patient Assessments before treating patients (except in emergencies) as evidenced by process improvement reviews.Know and follow indications and contraindications, policies and procedures for therapeutic modalities (including but not limited to IPPB, IS, HHN, CPAP & BiPAP, Heliox).Assure proper physician orders before treatment and discontinue treatment if adverse or contraindicating findings are noted, with documentation and notification to appropriate staff.Ensure safe utilization of gas cylinders and piped gas outlets; set up gas cylinders with proper safety measures and use proper body mechanics when lifting/moving cylinders; understand oxygen, air and vacuum outlets, regulators, flowmeters and devices.Perform arterial punctures (radial, brachial, femoral) independently and draw arterial lines for blood gas analysis; obtain samples per physician orders and in compliance with universal precautions.Be a member of the code team and rapid response team; maintain current BLS/ACLS; assist with external chest compressions, endotracheal tube and LMA handling as observed, and verify endotracheal tube placement with ETCO2, breath sounds and chest X-ray.Perform all aspects of artificial airway care; conduct naso-tracheal and endo-tracheal suctioning; explain benefits and complications of airway devices.Document maintenance, calibration, problems, and quality controls on blood gas analyzers; perform ABG analyzer maintenance as documented; change IQM cartridges as directed; report critical values per policy.Familiar with measuring devices (ETCO2, pulse oximeter, Wrights respirometer, oxygen blenders); perform weaning mechanics using respirometer, manometer and cuff pressure manometer and document data; measure static compliance and dynamic airway resistance for mechanically ventilated patients.Responsible for the setup, safety checks, monitoring and troubleshooting of mechanical ventilators; set up and apply all ventilation modes; perform ventilator checks as prescribed; promote use of mechanical ventilation protocols for management and weaning; perform endotracheal extubation when ordered.Familiar with setup and administration of CPAP and BiPAP; select proper equipment and fit masks; set parameters and alarms for NPPV; explain modalities and applications relative to patient disease process.Maintain accurate and legible records documenting clinical notes in the patient’s medical record; ensure medications administered and missed are documented; complete PRP documentation in a timely manner and notify RN who triggered PRP of any interventions.Participate in reporting patient progress and condition to the next shift and document needed level of care; attend staff meetings and continuing education as scheduled.Maintain a culture of safety; adhere to patient identification policies, use personal protective equipment, follow respiratory etiquette and universal precautions, and dispose of hazardous materials safely; follow electrical safety guidelines.Performs new respiratory procedures as they are introduced and participates in in servicing the Respiratory Care Department; adhere to National Patient Safety Goals as determined by process improvement reviews.Essential Functions (Cont.)Technology and Learning

Minimum Education – Must be a graduate of an approved school of Respiratory Care.
Minimum Work Experience – Two years of acute care experience preferred.
Required Licenses / Registrations – Respiratory Therapist License;
Registered Respiratory Therapist (NBRC).
Required Classes/Skills – ACLS; BLS; 3 - 12-hour night shifts a week with possible every-other-weekend
