The GP receptionistis responsible for undertaking a wide range of reception duties and providing support to the multidisciplinary team. Duties may include, but are not limitedto, greeting and directing patients, effective use of the appointment system,booking appointments, processing of personal information and assisting patients as required

The practice offers a wide range of services including routine and urgent appointments, chronic disease management, health promotion, minor illness care, and access to a multidisciplinary team. Job responsibilitiesThe core responsibilities of the receptionist are as follows. On occasion, there may be a requirement to carry out tasks not listed below, that are within the reasonable scope of the role.
- Maintain and monitor practice appointment system
- Process personal, telephone and e-requests for appointments
- Answer incoming phone calls, dealing with the callers request appropriately
- Signpost patients to the correct service
- Initiating contact with and responding to, requests from patients, team members and external agencies
- Data entryof new and temporary registrations and relevant patient information as requested
- Input dataas necessary onto patients healthcare records
- Direct requests for information to relevant team members i.e., SAR, DVLA forms, insurance/solicitors letters
- Manage all queries as necessary in an efficient manner
- Carry outsystem searches as requested
- Support all clinical staff with general tasks as required
- Photocopy documentation as required
- Maintain aclean, tidy and effective working area
- Monitor and maintain the reception area and notice boards
In addition to the core responsibilities, the Receptionist may be requested to;
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
- Experience in a GP practice
- Experience with System One
- Clear, polite telephone manner
- Competent in the use of Office and Outlook
