Overview

For nearly 100 years, YMCA Camp Chandler has influenced the lives of thousands of children. Staff members strive to put Judeo-Christian principles into practice to create a fun and enjoyable experience in which children will grow in spirit, mind and body. The Camp Chandler experience offers more than just education in camping and outdoor skills. In this atmosphere, children can develop self-confidence, social skills, leadership, initiative, group responsibility, appreciation of the natural environment, spiritual awareness, independence and physical and mental growth.

Camping is learning through participation. A summer camp experience will be a powerful force in one’s life. The counselor is the prime factor in determining how positive this force is. Camp involves hard work and some long hours. We are here for the campers. Staff members get their reward from the satisfaction of helping a young person become an adult.

A camp is only as good as its leadership. The success of a camping experience is due in large part to the relationship between a camper and his/her counselor. Therefore, great emphasis is placed on staff selection. A camp counselor has a great responsibility to every camper under their care. Camp Chandler has been blessed with a highly dedicated, enthusiastic and caring staff.

The high percentage of returning campers each year attests to the quality of our staff and the excellence of our leadership program – fostering responsibility and camp spirit in the hearts of campers of all ages.

• Living in cabin with campers, maintaining control over his/her cabin in all camp activities, teaching camp activities and helping in program leadership.
• In addition, counselors assist in other camp duties as needed.

• You must be highly motivated, dedicated, and reliable.
• Must be 17 years old or older
• Experience with youth / in childcare is preferred.
• Ideal candidates for summer camp counselors at YMCA Camp Chandler have experience working with children, are enthusiastic, have a love for the outdoors, and are amenable to being trained as a lifeguard or belayer.
