Network Administrator (W2)
Location: Weathersfield CT
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire (potential for full-time conversion)
OverviewTEKsystems is seeking a Network Administrator to support a public sector client’s Network Engineering team based onsite in Weathersfield, CT. This is a hands‑on role focused on supporting, maintaining, and modernizing enterprise network infrastructure in a government environment. The ideal candidate combines strong technical networking skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with internal teams, customers, and leadership. The position is primarily remote troubleshooting using remote access tools to log into switches and network devices, with minimal travel (approximately 5-15%) for onsite support as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Configure, maintain, and support Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and Cisco 9800 WLC environments
- Provide support and maintenance for Enterasys switching environments
- Support network segmentation initiatives and infrastructure modernization projects
- Manage IP addressing and subnetting (approximately 50 subnets) with accurate documentation
- Troubleshoot complex Tier III network issues and implement long‑term, scalable solutions
- Monitor and analyze network performance using tools such as Whats Up Gold and Wireshark; recommend improvements
- Ensure compliance with security standards and best practices, including PCI‑DSS (preferred)
- Perform on‑site network assessments, organize network closets, and manage structured cabling (minimal travel)
- Troubleshoot issues by remotely logging into switches and network devices
- Support disaster recovery planning, testing, and documentation
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical initiatives
- Present technical information and project updates clearly to non‑technical stakeholders and leadership
- CCNA certification or equivalent hands‑on networking experience
- Strong knowledge of Cisco IOS, Layer 2/Layer 3 switching, and routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP)
- Experience with Cisco 9800 Wireless LAN Controllers
- Experience supporting Enterasys switching platforms
- Experience with firewall configuration and network security concepts
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to translate technical concepts into clear, non‑technical explanations
- Hands‑on experience with network monitoring and analysis tools such as Whats Up Gold and Wireshark
- Familiarity with enterprise services including DNS, DHCP, VPN, TACACS+, and IPS/IDS
- Experience with APC UPS systems and basic power/network closet infrastructure support
- Cradlepoint experience (nice to have)
- Experience with Microsoft Excel (basic spreadsheets, documentation, and tracking)
- Experience using Track It (client helpdesk system) – Remedy project exposure is a plus

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wethersfield, CT.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 – $50.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
