Summary of Position:
We are seeking a passionate and innovative English Teacher dedicated to creating a highly engaging learning environment that aligns with our Vision of the Graduate skills, Communicator, Problem-Solver, and Collaborator, equipping students for success in an ever-evolving world. The ideal candidate will create an engaging, student-centered learning environment that promotes lifelong wellness, physical literacy, social-emotional growth, and informed decision-making related to personal and community health.
The ideal candidate may have experience implementing research-based programs and best practices in reading, writing, analyzing literature, and social-emotional learning, and will incorporate developmentally appropriate instruction that supports student growth across a wide range of abilities. They should also implement research-based instructional strategies that foster active participation, student engagement, teamwork, goal-setting, and personal responsibility.
The English Teacher will promote the independence of each student as a learner, effectively assess student needs and progress, and plan instruction to achieve meaningful learning objectives, including those tailored for exceptional learners. The ideal candidate will accomplish these goals through effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues and by utilizing engaging, inclusive, and student-centered techniques and materials in a supportive and dynamic learning environment.
Preferred candidates will have a demonstrated ability to create a collaborative learning culture that encourages healthy decision-making, personal responsibility, and positive relationships while supporting student wellness and lifelong fitness.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Plan and create lesson plans aligned with the district's curriculum and the state's core educational standards, and deliver instructional activities consistent with the targeted learning;
* Create, organize and utilize learning activities (discussions, projects and assessments) designed to enhance classroom teaching, support optimal learning, and develop new skills;
* Encourage student learning through peer collaboration and productive discussion;
* Adapt English curricular tasks and assessments for individual, small group and targeted support to meet student needs;
* Guide students, individually and in groups, in preparing for different types of assessments;
* Collaborate with colleagues in the development and utilization of unit lessons and learning assessments;
* Integrate technology and interactive resources to support student engagement and learning.
* Evaluate student progress and achievement through formal and informal testing, and use the data to drive instruction and intervention;
* Create a classroom environment conducive to learning;
* Provide on-going feedback to students through the use of formative assessments.
Qualifications:
* Master's Degree is preferred, but not required;
* Position requires the appropriate CT Certification in 015 English grades 4-12:
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community;
* Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form;
* Ability to meet deadlines with time constraints;
* Ability to handle and treat information confidentially;
* Ability to plan and organize work schedule and set priorities;
* Ability to work independently and efficiently.
* Ability to integrate instructional technology resources into district curriculum;
* Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills to lead teachers, parents, and members of the school community;
* Knowledge of best practice in instruction and assessment;
* Ability to author routine reports, analysis, and correspondence;
* Ability to speak effectively and succinctly before administrators, staff, parents, and students;
* Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
