Job Title: Data & Systems Engineer
Location: Cambridge, MA (Hybrid - 3 days onsite)

Monday–Friday, 8 am to 5 pm
Compensation: $60-68/hour DOQ
Type: 12 month contract with potential to extend
The Data & Systems Engineer supports the design, implementation, and governance of scalable data and compute platforms used for scientific and enterprise analytics. This role works across Databricks, AWS cloud infrastructure, and Posit environments to enable secure, efficient, and reliable data workflows. The ideal candidate brings hands‑on experience with modern data platforms and cloud technologies while collaborating with engineering and research teams to support advanced analytical environments.
Responsibilities- Support development of reference architectures for scalable data, analytics, and compute platforms.
- Design and document system architectures, including data flows, source-to-target mappings, and technical standards.
- Develop and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines using Databricks with Unity Catalog and Delta Lake.
- Assist with AWS infrastructure implementation across services such as S3, IAM, Lambda, EC2, Glue, EMR, and Cloud Watch.
- Contribute to integrations between Databricks, Posit Workbench/Connect, and scientific data platforms.
- Support CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code workflows using Terraform, Git Hub Actions, and AWS-native tools.
- Participate in platform security reviews, governance initiatives, and compliance controls.
- Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and platform teams to gather requirements and support platform adoption.
Required
- Hands‑on experience with Databricks, including Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, clusters, and notebooks.
- Experience working with AWS cloud services such as S3, IAM, Lambda, EC2, Glue, EMR, and Cloud Watch.
- Proficiency developing automation and workflows using Python, SQL, R, Bash, or Power Shell.
- Understanding of cloud architecture, data engineering patterns, and system integration practices.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred
- Experience working with Posit Workbench, Posit Connect, or Package Manager supporting R/Python workflows.
- Experience building architecture diagrams using tools such as Visio, Draw.io, or SqlDBM.
- Familiarity with Terraform, Cloud Formation, or Git Hub Actions.
- Exposure to scientific computing environments or R&D-focused data platforms.
