The Westwood Police Department, a progressive, non‑civil service law enforcement agency that works closely with our public safety colleagues and all stakeholders in our community, is currently seeking qualified candidates for the full‑time position of Police Officer.
The Town of Westwood is a growing community with more than 1.5 million sq. ft. of retail shopping, office space and residential development, and a resident population of approximately 16,000 people. Westwood is an extremely safe and engaged community, supportive of public safety, and located 12 miles southwest of Boston. The Westwood Police Department has top‑notch equipment and technology and operates out of a new public safety facility within a supportive work environment and a collaborative management team.
Officers have multiple opportunities for promotion, specialized assignments and training, as well as regional job enlargement through participation in Metro‑LEC (Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council).
Qualifications: Candidates must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, possess good problem‑solving skills, and be able to enforce the law impartially, making sound judgments under stressful situations. Candidates with a high school diploma or GED are eligible to apply, however, candidates with a bachelor degree from an accredited college or university or an associate degree with at least (2) years’ active duty military service are preferred.
Candidates with diverse personal, professional, and educational backgrounds are encouraged to apply. There is no age limit to apply, however, candidates will be required to pass proportionate fitness standards and pass job‑related medical screenings. Candidates must be a citizen of the United States and at least 21 at the time of appointment, and must possess the ability to obtain a valid Massachusetts driver’s license and Class A License to Carry Firearms.
Retirement is mandatory at 65 years of age.
Candidates with no prior law enforcement experience are encouraged to apply but would need to complete a full‑time Massachusetts certified police academy upon hire.
Transfer Officer candidates must either have graduated from a full‑time Massachusetts Police Training Committee (MPTC) certified police academy; have completed a MPTC certified Bridge Police Academy and be certified to work as a full‑time police officer; or be eligible for a waiver from the MPTC for having attended a certified police academy and meeting the qualifications as set forth in 555 Code of Massachusetts Regulations 3.03(a).
Salary
:
Current CBA offers an annual salary range of $75,819 to $116,158 along with a competitive benefits package. Salary range is dependent on experience, education and night differential. Career Incentive Pay for ALL degrees (10% for Associate; 20% for Bachelor; and 25% for Master). Significant opportunity for overtime and additional income from extra duty work. Detail rates:
Day rate $79/hr, Night rate $119/hr.
