About this job

Personal Assistant for teen F/T £16.47/hr in Weston-super-mare. I am looking to recruit a Female Direct Payment Personal Assistant for my 16-year-old daughter. She has been diagnosed with Edwards Syndrome, a life‑limiting condition that results in significant physical and learning needs, and also has a diagnosis of autism. Though she is verbal, her speech is limited to short words and sentences.

She enjoys walks, outdoor play, baking, cooking, puzzles, arts and crafts, and is a happy child with a good sense of humour and a determined personality. She has no awareness of danger and therefore requires close supervision at all times when out in the community. Support can be provided both within the home and when accessing activities outside. She has a significant need for support to develop personal care skills, including female personal hygiene and, as her needs progress, assistance with showering or bathing.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct personal care and support for the young person.
  • Assist with personal hygiene, bathing, and grooming as required.
  • Offer close supervision during community outings and ensure safety.
  • Support engagement in leisure activities, including walks, baking, cooking, puzzles, and arts and crafts.
  • Assist with transportation to activities, ensuring a full UK driving licence and personal car are available.
  • Support the implementation of the personal care plan and any related training.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures for adults and children and maintain first aid readiness.
  • Maintain clear communication with the family and support team.
Qualifications
  • Experience working with children with disabilities, particularly with personal hygiene and bathing.
  • Ideally Ofsted registered.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and first aid best practices.
