Overview

Ultrasound Technologist II at High Tech Medical Park. Responsible for performing ultrasound procedures with attention to patient comfort, safety, and quality imaging. May assist and lead in the absence of supervision and collaborate with radiologists to obtain optimal study results.

Responsibilities
  • Position patients and select technical factors and equipment to obtain scans of optimal quality, using immobilization techniques as needed.
  • Position, transfer, and immobilize patients for procedures to ensure high-quality exams.
  • Assist physicians by recommending study parameters and selecting appropriate technical factors for procedures.
  • Work independently to perform basic ultrasound exams when required.
  • Act as lead technologist in the absence of supervision.
  • Obtain pertinent patient history for each procedure to provide radiologists with adequate information prior to interpretation.
  • Collaborate with radiologists to ensure optimal outcomes and maintain positive relationships with patients and staff.
  • Maintain compliance with safety standards to ensure patient and staff well-being.
  • Keep current CPR certification and operate all equipment safely in accordance with department policies; follow universal precautions to protect against exposure.
  • Document department records (inventory, patient statistics) and maintain proper patient records; assemble daily schedules and prepare patient folders.
  • Prepare ultrasound rooms and ensure necessary equipment and supplies are available prior to procedures.
  • Know and operate Clinical Information Computer Systems as required.
  • Stay abreast of current ultrasound skills and developments; maintain CME credits and ARDMS licensure requirements.
  • Provide instruction and assistance to students or fellow technologists orienting in ultrasound.
Education/Experience Required
  • ARDMS registered. 3–5 years of experience in a hospital or clinical setting. Knowledge and ability to perform all ultrasound procedures offered at HTMP, including vascular studies.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • High level of technical knowledge to perform basic ultrasound studies with minimal radiologist assistance; able to make diagnostic judgments and present findings to the radiologist.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • CPR certification; ARDMS registered in Abdomen and OB/Gyn; RVT or RVT eligible/proficient.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including late hours and weekends; ability to work at related sites (e.g., Palos Heights, Tinley Park).
  • Ability to perform lifting activities related to patient care; lifting up to 35 pounds without assistance; use of patient lifting equipment for heavier lifts with assistance as needed.
