Overview

Join Our Mission‑Driven Team at Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland! We’re seeking a skilled and dedicated Full‑Time Accounting Manager to help lead our financial operations and support our commitment to exceptional service. In this key role, you’ll oversee the daily functions of the accounting department, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, maintain regulatory compliance, and provide strong leadership to a collaborative team.

Your expertise will directly contribute to the organization’s financial stability and strategic growth. This position offers a Monday–Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm schedule with a hybrid work arrangement

What You ll Do
  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting processes, providing financial insights to support business decisions.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor accounting staff, fostering professional growth and team efficiency.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and provide necessary documentation during audits.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in accounting operations.
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide financial guidance and support organizational initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

What You ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA required).
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Quick Books, SAP, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills.

  • Demonstrated discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment in handling sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and tactfully with individuals at all levels, including residents, staff, families, external vendors/authorities, and the public.
  • Strong attention to detail in writing, proofreading, managing priorities, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, demonstrating a cooperative, respectful, and compassionate approach to colleagues and resident care.
  • Skilled in the use of standard office equipment and technology.
  • Maintains professionalism, composure, and a positive attitude when managing challenging situations.
  • Physically able to move throughout the workday, including travel between campus locations and lifting items up to 10 pounds using safe handling practices.
  • May be necessary to assist with resident evacuation during emergency situations.
  • Complies with organizational health and safety requirements, including vaccination policies or valid exemptions.
