Overview
Supervisor – Nursing Professional Development (NPD) provides hospital-level leadership and operational oversight for the Nursing Professional Development Practitioner Team, ensuring excellence in nursing education across Carroll Hospital and Life Bridge Health. This role manages, develops, and evaluates NPD team members while coordinating daily and long-term priorities. The Supervisor also functions as an NPD Specialist, designing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based educational programs aligned with the ANA Nursing Professional Development Scope and Standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
The NPD Supervisor serves as a learning facilitator, mentor, advisor, and strategic partner to support hospital-wide education initiatives, advance quality improvement efforts, and promote high-quality, evidence-based patient care.
- Leadership
- Serve as a change agent by promoting innovation, evidence-based practice, and knowledge sharing.
- Demonstrate expert clinical judgment, critical thinking, and professionalism.
- Coach and mentor NPD team members to strengthen clinical competence, decision-making, and systems thinking.
- Foster teamwork and engagement through effective communication and relationship-centered leadership.
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, retention, and performance management efforts.
- Ensure personal and team competency alignment with Life Bridge Health standards.
- Act as a steward of organizational resources and advocate for the patient experience.
- Support the development of hospital- and unit-based clinical competencies.
- Curriculum Development
- Design, develop, and coordinate nursing education curricula across Life Bridge Health.
- Plan and implement education using adult learning principles, evidence-based teaching strategies, and competency-based methodologies.
- Identify and prioritize education topics based on regulatory requirements, quality and safety initiatives, needs assessments, and emerging technologies.
- Deliver high-quality, cost-effective education tailored to diverse staff and departmental needs.
- Ensure all educational content complies with organizational policies and professional standards.
- Project Management
- Collaborate with the Clinical Excellence team to align education initiatives with organizational goals.
- Lead education projects from planning through evaluation, ensuring timely execution and stakeholder engagement.
- Monitor outcomes and metrics to assess effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities.
- Continuing Education & Professional Development
- Assess knowledge and practice gaps at the hospital and system level to guide education planning.
- Partner with interdisciplinary teams to implement education initiatives that support staff development and patient care.
- Align education efforts across departments and facilities to ensure consistency and standardization.
- Integrate evidence-based practice into education to strengthen clinical decision-making and patient safety.
- Promote lifelong learning and professional growth across nursing roles.
- Regulatory & Quality Standards
- Ensure education programs meet regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements.
- Participate in entity and system-wide regulatory readiness activities.
- Support quality improvement initiatives by aligning education with identified data gaps and performance needs.
- Ensure education initiatives directly support system-wide quality and safety priorities.
- Required: 3–5 years in nursing education
- Preferred: 1–2 years in nursing leadership
- Required: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
- Required:
- Registered Nurse License – Current Maryland license or eligibility to obtain
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Preferred:
- APRN – Clinical Nurse Specialist (Maryland license or eligibility)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
