Penguin Random House is the world’s largest trade book publisher, distributing approximately 400 million units annually in the US through a network of four large-scale distribution centers. We are seeking a high-caliber Director, Finance, Global Controller to lead financial oversight, cost transparency, and performance insight across our US warehouse and distribution operations with added responsibility of driving global financial rigor and control.

This role sits at the intersection of operations, finance, and analytics; reporting into PRH Corporate Finance and WW Reporting & Planning, collaborating closely with the VP of Operations, Financial Planning & Analysis, and supporting the strategy of the US COO and the fulfilment and distribution leadership team. The successful candidate will not only ensure strong financial controls and reporting but will also act as a strategic partner to operations leadership, driving data‑backed decisions that improve productivity, unit economics, and capital efficiency.

This role can be hybrid NYC or hybrid Westminster, MD, and will require frequent travel between locations.

Responsibilities
  • Control the P&L and cost structure for warehouse and distribution operations.
  • Supporting forecasting and variance analysis.
  • Develop and maintain unit-level economics and activity-based costing (ABC) models including the definition of variable fulfilment versus fix costs.
  • Act as the finance lead for Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and SAP.
  • Support the planning and execution of Warehouse & Distribution strategy.
  • Build and own Power BI dashboards for real‑time operational and financial insights.
  • Partner cross‑functionally with Distribution, Supply Chain, and Finance leadership.
  • Lead financial evaluation and governance of large‑scale warehouse transformation initiatives.
  • Own financial business cases for significant Cap Ex investments, including ROI, ROIC, payback period, and sensitivity analyses.
  • Partner with Operations, PRHPS, and Supply Chain leadership to prioritize investments.
  • Track post‑investment performance versus approved business cases.
  • Translate operational improvements into measurable financial outcomes.
  • Support long‑term network capacity planning and scenario modeling.
  • Architect and oversee advanced analytical frameworks integrating data from various systems.
  • Design and maintain advanced Power BI environments for decision‑making.
  • Utilize scenario modeling and sensitivity analysis for evaluating investments and impacts.
  • Partner with IT and data teams to improve data quality and reporting automation.
  • Leverage technology for predictive insights and capital deployment optimization.
  • Act as a translator between technical operational data and financial outcomes.
Qualifications
  • 8–12+ years of experience in controllership or operational finance
  • Must have deep experience in warehouse, distribution, or logistics environments, globally and domestically
  • Strong expertise in unit economics and ABC costing
  • Advanced Power BI and analytics skills
  • Knowledge of Technology stacks like Step Logic, Blue Yonder or SAP a plus
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial close processes
  • Experience with large‑scale, multi‑site distribution networks preferred
Compensation

The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $190,000. All positions are currently eligible for an annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.
