About the Position
The company is seeking a Field Engineer to support NAVFAC Design-Build construction projects in Guam and Hawaii. This role is a key technical field support position responsible for layout verification, field engineering, documentation, constructability coordination, and daily technical support for construction operations.
The Field Engineer works directly on-site and collaborates closely with the Project Superintendent, Project Engineer, and Project Manager. Acting as a critical link between field operations and the design/engineering team, the Field Engineer helps ensure that construction activities are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
This role is ideal for early- to mid-career construction professionals looking to gain experience on complex federal construction projects and international assignments.
Key Responsibilities
Field Engineering & Layout
- Perform field layout, coordinate surveying activities, and verify construction work against approved plans and control points.
- Verify dimensions, elevations, alignments, and locations before and during construction.
- Identify discrepancies between drawings, site conditions, and installed work and escalate issues promptly.
Technical Field Support
- Provide daily technical support to the Project Superintendent and field supervision.
- Assist in resolving constructability issues, field conflicts, and technical questions.
- Support sequencing and work planning by providing accurate field-based information.
Design Coordination
- Observe construction activities to ensure work conforms to approved drawings and specifications.
- Serve as a field liaison with the Project Engineer and Designer of Record (DOR).
- Assist with the development and clarification of Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Communicate design clarifications and approved changes to field personnel.
- Support implementation of design revisions and approved modifications.
Quality Support
- Coordinate with the QC Manager to support field-level quality execution.
- Verify work is performed in accordance with approved submittals, inspection plans, and quality standards.
- Assist with documentation of inspections, test results, and corrective actions.
- Identify potential quality issues early to prevent rework.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate daily field records including quantities, work progress, and site conditions.
- Assist with quantity tracking, material verification, and production documentation.
- Support preparation of reports for schedule updates, pay applications, and government reporting.
- Maintain organized records of drawings, sketches, and field changes.
Field Coordination
- Interface daily with field superintendents, subcontractors, and self-perform crews.
- Participate in daily and weekly construction coordination meetings.
- Communicate field issues clearly and professionally to project leadership.
- Maintain a professional presence on an active military installation.
Project Closeout
- Assist with project closeout activities including as-built documentation and turnover support.
- Perform additional field engineering duties as assigned by project leadership.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline
- 2–5 years of experience supporting construction projects as a Field Engineer or in a similar role
- Experience supporting civil, heavy civil, or infrastructure construction
- Basic knowledge of surveying, field layout, and construction methods
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Experience supporting NAVFAC, USACE, or other DoD construction projects
- Previous work on Design-Build projects
- Experience working on active military installations
- Familiarity with UFGS, Division 01, and federal construction standards
- Prior OCONUS experience, particularly in Guam or the Indo-Pacific region
