We’re currently seeking a dedicated Full Time Unit Clerk to become part of our caring and mission-driven community. This position is 8:00 am‑4:00 pm, Monday‑Friday. The Unit Clerk provides clerical, administrative, and communication support to ensure efficient operation of the health‑care center nursing unit.

What You’ll Do as a Unit Clerk at Carroll Lutheran Village:
  • Maintain and organize unit documentation including rosters, daily census, 24‑hour reports, admission charts, resident identification records, and required nursing forms.
  • Coordinate clerical functions such as preparing transfer paperwork, managing lab work and diagnostic orders, updating emergency and nursing phone lists, and filing necessary reports.
  • Monitor and maintain supply inventory by stocking, organizing storage areas, and submitting purchase orders; assist with receiving oxygen deliveries.
  • Support communication on the unit by answering telephones, paging as needed, delivering messages, greeting visitors, and providing directions.
  • Assist with scheduling HCC nursing staff and completing time‑tracking duties in Kronos.
  • Prepare and submit billing sheets, resident charge slips, and other required documentation to the Business Office.
  • Help orient new personnel and participate in required in‑service and continuing education programs.
  • Promote resident safety and dignity by ensuring accurate armbands/headboard labels, responding to call bells when necessary, knocking before entering rooms, and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Report any allegations of resident abuse or misappropriation of property immediately.
  • Maintain a calm, organized, and supportive environment at the nurses’ station and throughout the unit; collaborate effectively with all departments.

Qualifications Education | Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in an administrative or secretarial role.
  • Post‑secondary coursework or certification in medical office administration, health information management, or related field preferred.
  • Previous clerical or administrative experience in a healthcare, long‑term care, or medical office setting preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with regulations and standards governing long‑term care is preferred.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and tactfully with individuals at all levels, including residents, staff, families, external vendors/authorities, and the public.
  • Strong attention to detail in writing, proofreading, managing priorities, and meeting deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, demonstrating a cooperative, respectful, and compassionate approach to colleagues and resident care.
  • Skilled in the use of standard office equipment and technology.
  • Maintains professionalism, composure, and a positive attitude when managing challenging situations.
  • Physically able to move throughout the workday and lift items up to 20 pounds using safe handling practices.
  • May be necessary to assist with resident evacuation during emergency situations.
