Overview
Under general supervision, employee patrols parks, trails, and open space properties providing for visitor safety and resource protection, education and outreach, and ensures compliance with parks rules and regulations.
Responsibilities- Perform foot, bicycle, and vehicle patrols to enforce rules and regulations in parks, trails, and open space properties of unincorporated Adams County and cooperating municipal jurisdictions per IGA or MOU terms and conditions.
- Prioritize visitor safety and provide public education in areas of responsibility.
- Enforce parks rules and regulations by contacting violators, issuing verbal/written warnings, and citations as warranted.
- Conduct investigations upon observation or reports of unlawful or unusual occurrences; resolve visitor complaints, closure monitoring, dumping/encroachment mitigation, agricultural land patrol, and interaction with vulnerable populations (homeless and at-risk individuals).
- Prepare and maintain records and reports; take written statements and record relevant information as necessary.
- Collect evidence as warranted; document evidence per policy to maintain proper chain of custody.
- May be required to provide testimony in court regarding investigations and/or citations.
- Provide information and direction to the visiting public.
- Manage the camping allowed by permit only at the Riverdale Regional Park and enforce rules and regulations for individuals using the campsites.
- Manage and enforce recreational activities allowed at bodies of water within areas of responsibility to include boating, fishing, and enforcement of prohibited activities, and is prepared and equipped for water rescues including swift water rescues.
- Respond to and provide aid/assistance as a first responder during emergencies/crises occurring within jurisdiction.
- Perform rescue operations as trained to include medical emergencies, search and rescue, surface‑ice rescue, boating/water rescue, wildfire, floods, and other natural disasters.
- Serve as a specialist by contributing parks law enforcement expertise to department plans, projects, committees, policy development and meetings.
- Perform basic maintenance operations including trash removal, snow removal, restroom cleaning, fence and sign maintenance/installation as needed.
- Develop and coordinate strategies for rule compliance and education in areas of responsibility.
- Coordinate with other departments (i.e., Sheriff's Office, District Attorney’s Office, ADCOM, etc.) as assigned regarding operational efficiencies.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
- Knowledge of safety hazards and necessary safety precautions enough to establish a safe environment for self and others.
- Skill in applying existing guidelines or recommending new approaches for developing and modifying work plans, methods, and procedures.
- Ability to learn how to use pepper spray, baton, and other defensive equipment.
- Ability to learn and maintain CPR and first aid techniques sufficient to perform lifesaving measures and render first aid when needed.
- Computer skills: learn operation of computer and County-supported software, including MS Office Suite, JD Edwards, E‑Docs and other software.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish, maintain, and foster positive working relationships with contacts in the course of work, including vulnerable populations.
- Remain motivated, dynamic, and engage in problem‑solving throughout the day.
- Learn, interpret, and apply state and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
- Learn court procedure, including but not limited to, citation issuance and court documents.
- Enforce necessary regulations with firmness and tact, maintaining excellent customer service.
- Take proper safety precautions, anticipate unsafe circumstances and act accordingly to prevent accidents. Use all required safety equipment.
- Possess a proactive, self‑motivated work ethic while maintaining highest integrity and trust.
