Job Summary

The Preconstruction Intern supports the estimating and preconstruction team in developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction projects across a variety of industries and technical disciplines. This internship provides firsthand exposure to the preconstruction process, including quantity takeoffs, pricing, scope review, and bid preparation, while collaborating with experienced estimators and project teams.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist with quantity takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and models.
  • Support the development of cost estimates, budgets, and bid proposals.
  • Help review drawings and specifications to understand project scope and requirements.
  • Assist in gathering pricing from vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Organize and maintain bid documents, estimate files, and support documentation.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, scope reviews, and internal estimate reviews.
  • Help analyze historical cost data and benchmark information.
  • Support value engineering and alternative pricing exercises as needed.
  • Perform additional tasks to support successful bid submissions.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Strong interest in construction estimating and preconstruction.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications (or willingness to learn).
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
Preferred
  • Candidates who are currently pursuing a degree in Construction Management or Engineering.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with estimating or takeoff software is a plus.
  • Experience in construction, industrial services, manufacturing, or other asset-intensive, multi-site organizations.

Work Environment
  • Primarily an office environment with exposure to job sites.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs/ladders, and lift to 25 lbs. as needed.
  • Potential exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, or other environmental factors.
