The Manager of Truck Stop Merchandise Programs ensures guests have an exceptional product experience across all locations by delivering smart category strategies, efficient processes, and high‑performing programs. This role is central to driving revenue growth, operational consistency, and ongoing innovation in a fast‑moving retail environment.

Merchandise Strategy & Category Management
  • Own the full lifecycle of all merchandise categories, including assortment strategy, product selection, pricing, and category growth planning.
  • Analyze category performance, market trends, competition, and guest behavior to identify opportunities for expansion and innovation.
  • Develop annual category business plans that support sales, margin, and inventory targets.
Program & Process Development
  • Create and maintain standardized, scalable processes for product programs that ensure consistent execution in all truck stop locations.
  • Partner with Operations to ensure programs are simple, clear, and operationally feasible.
  • Develop workflows that streamline new product launches, promotions, resets, and seasonal updates.
Shared Services Collaboration
  • Work closely with Shared Services teams on space planning, planogram creation, updates, resets, and store layout optimization.
  • Ensure planograms reflect assortment strategies, vendor agreements, and operational practicality.
  • Review space productivity and recommend adjustments to maximize sales per square foot.
Vendor Sourcing & Procurement
  • Partner with the Procurement team to identify, evaluate, and select vendors that meet product quality, service, safety, and cost expectations.
  • Participate in vendor negotiations involving pricing, terms, promotional support, and product exclusivity opportunities.
  • Maintain strong vendor relationships to support product innovation and consistent supply chain performance.
Promotions & Marketing Coordination
  • Lead the strategy for category promotions, deals, and margin‑driving programs.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to execute promotional calendars, in‑store signage, and digital messaging.
  • Analyze promotional ROI and adjust future plans based on results and guest response.
Team Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of two Category Managers, each responsible for multiple product categories.
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and support for professional growth.
  • Foster a collaborative, data‑informed, guest‑focused team culture.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Merchandising, Retail Management, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 5+ years of merchandising, category management, or retail buying experience.
  • Experience in convenience retail, truck stops, travel centers, or high‑SKU retail strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience leading teams or cross‑functional projects.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret category data and drive insights.
  • Proficiency with merchandising systems, category management tools, and planogram software. SAP Retail and Blue Yonder system experience helpful.
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
  • Ability to build processes that balance operational simplicity with business impact.
  • Excellent communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with a team‑first approach.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Occasional travel to vendor locations, industry events, and store visits.
