Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following as well as other duties that may be assigned:
- Subject to periodic random drug testing as regulated by federal regulations and company policy.
- Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
- Participate in group discussions including unit meetings, job briefings, safety meetings or process reviews. Ability to throw switches to determine course of direction for the locomotive.
- Turn hand brakes wheel on rail cars to secure from movement. Maintain records of railcar movement.ommunicate with team members via radio Uncouple and couple railcars.onnect air hoses by bending and applying force.
- Climb ladders on cars, secure oneself while on ladder; ride a moving rail car safely at speeds of up to 10 MPH. Spatial reasoning skills required to visualize car movements and placements to achieve optimum efficiency. Ensure compliance with all train signals, orders, rules, and regulations.ay make minor repairs to couplings, air hoses and safety appliances, and report any equipment requiring major repairs.erforms

- High School diploma/GED 18 years of age or older Valid driver's license
- Ability to pass a pre-hire physical meeting the DOT requirements for the position Passing a DOT drug test is a condition of employment.
- Fluent in English both written and spoken, including familiarity with common colloquialisms
- Ability to calculate basic math basic computer skills, i.e., understanding written instruction through emails and charts.
- Work experience outdoors (e.g., construction, heavy equipment operation, farming, landscaping) At least 2 years of verifiable work experience
- Heavy work, lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds on a rare basis.
- Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on an occasional basis.
- Walk long distance through varied terrain.
- Must meet color vision requirements set forth by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
- Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries.
- Wear protective equipment such as hearing protection, safety-toe boots, or safety glasses.
- Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, on-call, and various shift work.
- Complete all training, pass safety rules, and conductor certification tests.
- Advance to Engineer position through additional certification.
- Work outside through all weather conditions.
- Require random testing for drugs and/or alcohol including marijuana.
- Must pass all required assessments.
- Must pass a background screening.
- May require a post-offer medical examination, including drug and physical capabilities test.
Skills:
- Basic knowledge of railroad operations.
- Inclined to working outdoors through a variety of weather conditions.
- Technical and mechanical acumen.
- Heavy duty equipment operation i.e., forklift or backhoe experience a plus but not required.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work together as a member of a team, alongside other team members daily.
