Registered Nurse II – Float, 32 hrs, 2nd Shift (260000K1)
Western Massachusetts Hospital, a specialty care public hospital operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse II to provide direct adult and geriatric inpatient care in a unit focused on ventilator/respiratory, end‑of‑life, neuromuscular, Alzheimer’s, and chronic care.
Responsibilities- Perform direct hands‑on nursing care using established hospital policies, procedures, and nursing standards of care.
- Assess and record the patient’s health status upon admission, using the Western Massachusetts Hospital Nursing Assessment process.
- Develop and maintain an up‑to‑date written plan of care for each patient, using nursing diagnoses to identify patient problems/needs, care to be given, and patient goals.
- Document changes in the patient’s condition and care rendered per established nursing service guidelines.
- Participate in and take actions directed by nursing and hospital‑wide quality assurance activities.
- Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients, families, and other members of the care team to enhance continuity of patient care.
- Maintain personal and professional growth by attending in‑services, keeping current with contemporary nursing practice, and participating on hospital committees.
- Participate in employee performance reviews by keeping supervisors informed of staff performance through consultation and documentation.
- Perform duties of charge nurse on the unit for a single shift or regular basis.
- May instruct unit personnel in nursing techniques, procedures, and equipment.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing.
- Understanding of the problems in providing nursing services to special client groups such as mentally, physically, or emotionally handicapped.
- Knowledge of the types and application of emergency medical procedures such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation and tourniquets.
- Meditech & Meta experience, CPR and IV certification.
- Sound knowledge of philosophy, principles, practices, and theories of public health and public health nursing.
- Demonstrated knowledge of standard nursing policies, procedures, methods, techniques, safety practices and medical terminology/abbreviations.
- Ability to establish effective relationships with individuals, families, providers, physicians, and staff members.
- Proficient usage of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
The Western Massachusetts Hospital is the only public hospital operating in the western region of Massachusetts, serving as a medical safety net for many uninsured and under‑insured citizens residing in the region.
