Position Summary

Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, the Aquatics Director is responsible for the overall leadership, development, and administration of the aquatic department. This role ensures high-quality aquatic programming, safe operations, effective staff supervision, and sound financial management aligned with Center and Association goals, objectives, and policies.

Unique to this position is the YMCA’s partnership with Westfield Washington Schools (WWS). The Aquatics Director plays a key role in coordinating operations and scheduling at the Natatorium, which is owned by WWS and operated daily by the YMCA under a formal agreement.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field required (aquatics/fitness emphasis preferred) or equivalent professional experience.
  • 2–3 years of experience in a YMCA or similar organization required.
  • Prior management experience in a school or municipal aquatic facility preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of aquatic and fitness programming and YMCA mission, philosophy, and values.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications: CPR, First Aid, Lifeguarding, and CPO/YMCA Pool Operator.
Skills & Competencies
  • Proven leadership and team-oriented management style.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and supervisory skills.
  • Experience with program development, budgeting, income generation, and expense control.
  • Ability to manage staff training, scheduling, facility operations, and equipment maintenance.
  • Effective communicator with strong public relations and collaboration skills.
