Industrial Maintenance Technician – Ready-Mix Concrete Plants

Position Overview

Shelby Materials is hiring an Industrial Maintenance Technician to support the safe, reliable operation of our ready-mix concrete plants and associated equipment. This role focuses on troubleshooting, repairs, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement to keep production running and minimizing downtime.

We're looking for a hands‑on, mechanically inclined technician who enjoys variety, works with precision, and can handle tasks independently while still communicating effectively with plant personnel, dispatch, and the maintenance team.

Key Responsibilities Plant Maintenance & Repairs
  • Maintain operation of ready‑mix concrete plants and associated machinery.
  • Perform repairs and corrective maintenance to restore production safely and efficiently.
  • Identify maintenance concerns early and communicate needs to keep equipment operating reliably.
Troubleshooting & Preventive Maintenance
  • Troubleshoot problems both mechanical and electrical (as qualified).
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and repairs on equipment including: power transmissions, conveyors, controls and automation‑related components, pneumatics and air systems
  • Perform welding/fabrication work as needed
Internal Communication & Accountability
  • Communicate clearly with the maintenance team, dispatchers, and plant personnel regarding priorities, downtime, and timelines.
  • Maintain a persistent, positive, and professional approach when solving urgent issues under pressure.
  • Follow safe work practices and required procedures to ensure work is completed correctly and safely.
  • Utilize technology to manage and track equipment repairs, downtime, and preventative maintenance schedules
  • Follow all task‑related safety requirements and wear required PPE at all times. Gloves, hearing protection, fall protection, and respiratory protection as the task requires.
What Success Looks Like
  • Plant equipment is reliable and downtime is minimized through proactive maintenance and effective troubleshooting.
  • Work is completed correctly the first time with strong attention to detail and safety.
  • Communication is clear and timely with plant teams so production can be planned appropriately.
  • You take ownership of tasks, follow through, and contribute to continuous improvement in plant reliability.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years in a mechanical or industrial maintenance position (5+ years preferred).
  • Ability to work with minimal direct supervision and manage tasks independently.
  • Mechanical aptitude including experience with power transmissions, conveyors, controls, and pneumatics.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues and basic electrical issues (as qualified).
  • Detail‑oriented with a flexible, assertive/persistent, positive attitude.
  • Welding experience required; electrical experience preferred.
  • Strong communication skills to work productively with maintenance, dispatch, and plant personnel.
  • (Preferred) Concrete/aggregate industry or automation experience.
Other Information:

This is an in‑person position supporting locations primarily in the North Indianapolis metro area (Westfield and Pendleton). Daily local travel between locations with a work vehicle provided for day use.

Will require early mornings, some Saturdays, and extended hours during peak season and based on workload throughout the year.

Be willing to work both inside and outside during all weather conditions.

Ready‑Mix Concrete Dispatch Manager

Compensation will depend on a candidate's education, experience, and skills. Full‑time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending in part on company and individual performance).

The anticipated wage for this position is: $29/hr-$33/hr base pay
