Position: Group Counselor (IOP)

Overview

Intensive Outpatient Counselor at Behavioral Health Group - BHG.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master’s level degree required plus LCDP, CADC, PADC required.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary ambassador for the IOP program, representing its mission and values internally and externally.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams, case managers, and support staff to ensure smooth program operations.
  • Engage with referral partners, community organizations, and healthcare providers to build awareness of the IOP program.
  • Contribute to the development and growth of the IOP program, including assisting with new processes, program design, and implementation.
  • Assist with outreach activities and build relationships with referral sources.
  • Provide input to leadership on strategies for increasing program visibility and effectiveness.
  • Maintain professionalism and act as a positive representative of the program in community and professional settings.
  • Attend work location consistently and promptly.
  • Complete assigned tasks/projects in a timely manner.
  • Deliver evidence-based counseling and crisis support services to IOP patients using a multidisciplinary approach.
  • Conduct BHG admissions using ASAM criteria to determine appropriate level of care (ASAM Level 2.1).
  • Review admissions and assessments to ensure patients meeting ASAM 2.1 criteria are offered or referred to the IOP program.
  • Meet with prospective IOP patients to explain program involvement and requirements using motivational strategies.
  • Develop clinical documentation (assessments, treatment plans) for IOP clients in collaboration with program leadership.
  • Communicate effectively with billing and RCM teams regarding IOP patient program attendance.
  • Provide a curriculum for the IOP program including Matrix Model, Seeking Safety, and CBT sessions (minimum 3 hours per day, 4 days per week).
  • Conduct supportive individual counseling sessions for enrolled IOP patients.
  • Work with program teams to ensure patient engagement and outreach.
  • Develop additional clinical interventions to meet the needs of specific IOP patients (e.g., parenting individuals).
  • Provide compassionate care and support patients towards their best functioning in the community.
  • Use an individualized, multidisciplinary approach to care with all medical staff.
  • Help patients identify and seek treatment for underlying mental and physical health conditions affecting recovery.
  • Collaborate with the recovery care team and clinical supervisor; make referrals to case management as appropriate.
  • Orient patients to program services, operations, and procedures; provide intake/readmission services and follow-up until a primary counselor is assigned.
  • Maintain up-to-date, accurate patient records to meet state regulatory IOP requirements.
  • Comply with all regulations, confidentiality, and privacy requirements.
  • Additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

The IOP Counselor must have the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree required plus LCDP, CADC, PADC required. Experience with outreach activities is preferred.
