THE OPPORTUNITY
HFLS seeks a second full-time Outreach Officer to raise the profile of the organization among prospective borrowers, with the goal of increasing the number of incoming loan applications and the number of borrowers that HFLS assists annually.
To understand the needs of lower-income New Yorkers and help more people access safe, affordable credit, HFLS develops and maintains strong working relationships with dozens of nonprofit and community organizations, government agencies, educational institutions, and others that provide direct services to low- and moderate-income New Yorkers. The main strategy for increasing visibility will be to expand and strengthen this network of referral sources and partner organizations throughout New York City, Westchester, and Long Island.
The Outreach Officer will:
- Research, identify, and prioritize high ROI organizations and groups for outreach.
- Create presentations and oversee the production of materials for referral source staff and clients and keep them up to date, organized, and accessible.
- Provide in-person and virtual HFLS trainings for partner and referral source staff to easily refer clients to HFLS; offer presentations and guidance for clients interested in applying for an HFLS loan.
- Share information about referral source and partner organizations’ programs and client needs with HFLS colleagues to inform loan program development and operations.
- Enter and maintain up-to-date information about HFLS organizational contacts, meetings, and developments in Salesforce.
- Attend and promote HFLS at relevant conferences and events.
- Identify new marketing strategies and opportunities to raise awareness of HFLS among potential referral sources and applicants.
- Work with the Communications & Development Manager to produce regular emails for a targeted email list of organizational contacts; assist with drafting HFLS mass emails and social media posts about our organizational collaborations.

Must Haves:
- Commitment to HFLS’s mission
- At least two years of professional experience in outreach and communications, relationship/network-building, or similar roles
- Excellent communication skills; listens with intention and is able to explain complex information verbally and in writing so that it is easily understood by diverse audiences
- Extremely organized; able to ensure that large quantities of information remain accessible, accurate, and up-to-date
- Self-directed and a team player; able to function well independently and in a dynamic, collaborative environment
Preferred, but not required:
- Knowledge of the NYC-area nonprofits that serve low- and moderate-income clients
- Basic graphic design skills
- Experience using Salesforce

Type: Full-time/Exempt
Start Date: March 2026 (flexible)
Location: Greater NYC area. Must be able to work from HFLS’s midtown Manhattan office at least one day per week and travel throughout New York City (and occasionally Westchester and Long Island) as required.
Compensation: $70,000-$80,000 per year depending on experience. Benefits include health, vision, and dental insurance and retirement plan with employer contribution.
