Clinical Pharmacist – Oncology

Full‑time position at New England Cancer Specialists, Westbrook Clinic.

Job Description

Clinical Pharmacists are an integral part of the oncology care team, providing counsel and education to patients on their medications. They work closely with providers, nurses and financial advocates to ensure that all medications are dispensed safely and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as insurance guidelines.

Job Duties
  • Dispense oral oncolytics and other agents related to oncology care; verify that a chemotherapy consent form has been signed for oral oncolytics.
  • Educate patients on safe handling of chemotherapy, when appropriate.
  • Dispense antibiotics, antifungals, aromatase inhibitors, diuretics, steroids, antiemetics, supplements, etc.
  • Post charges for retail pharmacy using QS1, with interface to Nucleus Solutions.
  • Utilize EMR to generate electronic prescriptions, excluding narcotics which are not filled internally at this time.
  • Assess patients and act as a regular resource to them.
  • Maintain patient care standards, ensuring that assessment, treatment and documentation are completed safely and effectively.
  • Initiate and document appropriate interventions; evaluate and record patient/family response within practice protocol.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with all physicians, employees, and vendors.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Research, Laboratory, Pharmacy, Business Office, HR, and Genetic departments.
Required Experience
  • Minimum education:

    BA/BS/Undergraduate Pharmacy Degree.
  • Registered pharmacist in the State of Maine.
  • Registered pharmacist in the State of New Hampshire (preferred or willing to obtain).
  • Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist preferred.
  • Minimum experience:

    1–3 years.
