New Communities, Inc. (NCI), a Maine nonprofit health services organization, is seeking an experienced and detail‑oriented Accounts Receivable Specialist to join our Finance team to support programs across the state. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of healthcare billing and accounts receivable processes, exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, and excellent organizational and problem‑solving skills. This individual will also demonstrate clear, professional communication and the ability to manage multiple priorities while ensuring timely outcomes.

After onboarding, you will be able to work remotely up to three days per week. A Minimum of 2 days are required on‑site in the Westbrook, Maine Office.
Responsibilities- Generate and process monthly invoices accurately and in a timely manner
- Maintain and update resident and client financial information within billing systems
- Monitor and update census (headcount) changes and ensure billing reflects accurate service dates and occupancy
- Maintain and update billable rates and authorized service units
- Submit billing to Maine Care and other applicable payers in accordance with payer requirements
- Reconcile accounts receivable balances and research and resolve discrepancies
- Reconcile Maine Care billing files and process remittances
- Assist with internal and external audits and other compliance reviews as needed
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a complex fiscal environment.
- Demonstrates attention to detail, with effective time management skills to consistently meet deadlines.
- Performs high‑volume data entry with accuracy and efficiency.
- Exhibits strong critical thinking skills, and the ability to analyze problems, determine cause, and develop effective solutions.
- Communicate billing and financial information clearly and professionally to families, guardians, and financially responsible individuals.

The ideal Accounts Receivable Specialist candidate possesses:
- High school diploma equivalency
- Experience with healthcare system billing
- 3 years of accounts receivable or related experience including audits and compliance requirements
- Advanced Excel skills
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- Experience with Access databases preferred
- Experience with Resident Trust Accounts preferred
- Experience with Maine Care billing, MIHMS, Kepro, PCC, or Awards systems preferred
