Function StatementUnder the supervision of a senior technician or supervisor, performs tasks that ensure the uninterrupted operations of threaded, flanged, groove locked, soldered, and pressed plumbing systems and equipment. Inspects, tests, installs, fabricates, modifies, rigs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs plumbing systems and equipment. Threaded, flanged, groove locked, soldered, and pressed plumbing systems and equipment include, but are not limited to compressed gas systems, backflow prev enters, sump pumps, drain, waste and vent systems, specialty water systems (e.g., chlorine dioxide, de‑ionized water, reverse osmosis), domestic water systems and plumbing fixtures, heating hot water systems, and chilled water systems.
Responds to emergency situations and evaluates and corrects defects.
Incumbents may perform some or all of these duties and other job‑related duties as required.
Plumbing (70%)- Reviewing blueprints and technical drawings, installing, repairing and replacing threaded, flanged, groove locked, soldered, and pressed piping and components. Measuring and cutting pipes using hand and power tools. Inspecting and identifying leaks.
- Installs and repairs domestic water systems. Installs and repairs drain, vent and waste systems. Installs and repairs specialty water systems (e.g., chlorine dioxide, de‑ionized water, reverse osmosis). Installs, certifies, repairs and performs preventative maintenance on backflow prev enters.
- Installs and replaces plumbing equipment and fixtures (e.g., meters, valves, toilets). Assembles and disassembles plumbing fixtures. Repairs compressed gas systems. Troubleshoots and resolves plumbing system issues (e.g., pressure, temperature, leaks). Performs plumbing and pipe fitting PMs. Addresses customer queries. Cleans the work area after completion.
- Ensures areas are in compliance with applicable codes. Documents regulatory compliance tests. Becomes knowledgeable of equipment and utilities and transfers that knowledge to other staff. Troubleshoots and resolves field problems. May assist lower‑level technicians. Locates, identifies, disables and enables local utility shut‑offs. Updates building drawings. Participates on emergency response teams.
- Documents labor, materials and work performed on work orders. Requests equipment and materials required to complete tasks. Informs customers when tasks are completed. Communicates and initiates work order escalation, if needed. Updates building drawings.
- Participates in professional development/continuing education activities: obtaining and maintaining required certifications, soft‑skill development, etc. Participates in meetings, trainings, and orientations. Participates on emergency response teams. Interacts with and assists other areas and staff within the department. May participate on committees. Locates, identifies, disables and enables local utility shut‑offs. Performs other duties as assigned.
- Read, understand and update blueprints, schematics and as‑built drawings.
- Read, understand and apply safety standards and practices (e.g., hazard communication, infection prevention, lock‑out/ tag‑out).
