Fire Protection Technician (Open)

Overview

Airgas is hiring a Fire Protection Technician in Charleston, WV. The role involves installing, inspecting, testing, maintaining fire suppression and signaling systems and ensuring client facilities are compliant and safe.

Responsibilities
  • Inspections & Testing:
    Perform routine inspections and functional testing of fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, fire pumps, and backflow prev enters in accordance with NFPA standards.
  • Maintenance & Repair:
    Diagnose malfunctions and perform necessary repairs on fire panels, smoke detectors, pull stations, and suppression systems.
  • Documentation:
    Maintain accurate digital records of all inspections, service reports, and deficiency findings.
  • Emergency Response:
    Participate in an on‑call rotation for emergency system failures or fire watch requirements.
  • Customer Service:
    Act as a technical consultant, explaining system operations and recommending upgrades or repairs.
  • Other Responsibilities:

    Recommend materials or equipment such as structural components protection, fire detection equipment, alarm systems, fire extinguishing devices and systems, and advise on location, handling, installation, and maintenance.
  • Pick up and deliver fire extinguishers to customers after repairs or testing have been completed.
  • Maintain adequate stock levels at customer locations.
  • Solicit new or additional products or services.
  • Maintain safe, well‑stocked company vehicles.
Qualifications
  • Certifications:

    NICET Level I or II in Fire Alarm Systems or Water‑Based Systems (preferred/required).
  • Technical Knowledge:
    Strong understanding of NFPA 72 and NFPA 25.
  • Manual Dexterity:
    Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Clean Record:
    Must possess a valid driver’s license and pass a background check.
  • Tool Proficiency:
    Experience using multimeters, pipe wrenches and diagnostic software.
  • Experience:

    Prefer, but not required, one year certificate from college or technical school; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
  • Prefer, but not required, certification in Fire Extinguisher and Ansul R102 Hood Fire Suppression System.
