Lead Fire Mechanic II

Overview

Oversee and maintain fire apparatus.

The functions listed below represent the majority of time spent in this position. Management may assign additional functions as necessary.

• Schedules and performs preventative maintenance on apparatus.
• Performs major repairs on pumps, transfer cases, engines, drive lines, etc.
• Performs equipment diagnostics and mechanical and electrical testing.
• Conducts annual pump and ladder apparatus testing.
• Requires the ability weld, cut, and fabricate.
• Replaces obsolete parts with updated part such as emergency lighting.
• Performs external repairs to apparatus, wreck repairs and proprietary electronic programming.
• Provides training to personnel on the proper use of pump systems and general operation of apparatus.
• Assists in preparation of work repair orders and related recordkeeping.
• Responsible for prioritizing, assigning, and scheduling apparatus for repairs.
• Schedules and manages the technician’s daily duties.
• Maintains a database of apparatus to include preventative maintenance schedules to include mileage, repairs, and service records.
• Oversee and manage the reserve fleet of fire apparatus and have readily available for use.

High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by six (6) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of apparatus, heavy equipment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Required to possess and maintain a valid state License, Class F, with no air brake restrictions.
