River Guide Trainee – Adventures on the Gorge

The River Guide Trainee position is an exciting opportunity to learn the skills and techniques required to become a professional whitewater rafting guide at Adventures on the Gorge. Trainees will participate in a comprehensive training program designed to prepare them for guiding guests safely and confidently on rafting trips. Training will commence in mid‑April 2026 and is a 4‑week commitment. Upon a trainee's successful completion of training and certification, trainees are then cleared to guide guests commercially.

• Participate fully in all training sessions, including on‑water practice, safety drills, and classroom instruction.
• Learn and demonstrate proficiency in river navigation, boat handling, and rescue techniques.
• Understand and adhere to all Adventures on the Gorge safety standards and operational procedures.
• Assist experienced guides with trip preparation, guest orientation, and equipment management.
• Provide exceptional customer service and create a positive, memorable experience for guests.
• Maintain professionalism and a team‑oriented attitude throughout training and guiding activities.
• Maintain a working knowledge of all products and services offered by AOTG.
• Adheres to safety policies and procedures to ensure safety of guests.
• Must be a knowledgeable guide for clients and provide support and reassurance.
• Ensures security of company assets and a safe work environment through daily maintenance and housekeeping.
• Works in conditions that involve exposure to unusual elements and extreme temperatures.
• Maintains excellent customer service and a positive demeanor towards guests, customers, clients, co‑workers, etc.

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Strong swimming ability and comfort in moving water required.
• Basic First Aid and CPR are required.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to learn, take direction, and work as part of a team.
• Previous outdoor or water‑based experiences is a plus but not required.
• Sit, stand and walk for varied amounts of time.
• Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Must be available to work flexible hours.

This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
